Obviously, he recommended that tuning would not be good with this update, as he's not sure what will happen. He did say one time they flashed an update to a tuned STI (unknowing that there was a tune), which fried the ECU and the owner was SOL.

Supposedly, ECUTek will address this in their next update? @Visconti, any idea about this?

Don't know if it is related or not, but right after this got done, I've been getting an idle BOUNCE not a dip. I'll be sitting at idle, around 600 rpms, then it will go up to about 800 for a second, then drop back down for a couple, then bounce back up again. As my car never did this before, I can't help but think it is linked.

Can anyone else verify this with their ECU update? Is this merely the engine re-learning some parameters that changed after the update?

Cars not yet delivered will either get the update once ashore (port or dealer) or the update will have been included on the assembly line for cars destined to recall states would be my guess.

I got this and talked to a dealer here and they didn't have the update. I spoke to Subaru and they hooked the dealer up with the software fix. I went in yesterday and had it done.

Idle is definitely higher with a cold engine.

Mine did that when I first got it from the dealer (without the new ECU reflash). I think this is normal, it should steady out in the next 100 miles or so.

I have had mine for over 5500 though.

After u did the recall flash, the parameters probably reset. Just like when u remove the battery for a while, the parameters reset.

Took about 45 minutes for them to do the flash. I had an oil change at the same time so I don't know if it's influenced by new lube or just a placebo effect but beforehand avg cold idle was just above 500 Rpms now about 750 Rpms. I noticed an idle drop/dip tended to happen after hitting 80's on the highway or tearing a strip. I did both and no fall off or dip.i felt like it shifted better but I'll leave that one to long term "testing" as I can't see how it's influenced.

Overall I think it was a good choice if they're fibbing about the real reason they're doing the flash because it doesn't require an owner to plead their case or a dealer totry to figure out how to document an idle issue.

I have the recall listed on my.subaru. BTW, it looks like this is a required update for all California cars, as the DMV will not renew your registration if you don't have this done!

Quote:
CALIFORNIA REGISTERED OWNERS

The California Air Resources Board requires that emission related campaigns be completed prior to California’s vehicle registration renewal process; without this repair, you will not be able to register your vehicle during your next annual registration. Upon completion of this campaign, your California dealer will complete and provide you a “Proof of Correction Certificate.” If required, present the certificate to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (the “DMV”) when renewing your California registration as proof of campaign completion. If the DMV does not request the certificate, we recommend that you keep it for your records.

Just got my recall flash. The car seems to idle a bit higher, around 750. I still see a bit of a drop, but now it drops to ~600 instead of ~500. I don't get the harsh vibrations due to the dip anymore. Hopefully after a couple days of driving the ECU will adapt and won't dip that often.

They also gave me a slip for the DMV in CA.

Got mine done today too. Exact same observations. Will see how it performs once ECU learns.

I like the low idle.

After a couple days I noticed the downshifting to 2nd was just as it always was so must have been placebo effect on that one.

Idle continues to stay strong at 750, the only time I've had a dip is when the fan for the HVAC is on setting 4; it came down to 250 then bounced right back up.
