Another way to confuse the power-hungry queries is to respond by saying "the car isn't about power, it's about balance". This will get seriously contorted face expressions from the guys with supercharged 600+HP Mustangs with stock brakes.

This is exactly why I look forward to getting my FR-S and taking it to the weekly local cruise-in. There are nothing but 50-something corvette owners and hot rod lovers there. Pretty to look at, but the youngest member of that group is in his late 30s.

Why not just say, no? If anything, it sounds more mature to say it's slow, I would respect someone saying the car is slower than it is than trying to compensate the lack of quickness with other stuff.

It's like someone asking you if your girlfriend is hot, and you responding, she's a good cook.

"Fast" is a relative term, so I always answer "Yes", because I think it is. There are cars that are faster, there are a lot more cars that are "slower". If they want more information we discuss my answer and they can agree or disagree, just like folks do on here.

Here's an example, and it goes along with the Elise example above. I don't drive the FR-S at any higher speed on my daily commute than I did my last DD. However, I have noticed my commute time over 40 miles of lights, on-ramps, off-ramps has changed (reduced) by about 5 to 10 minutes on average.

So, in my daily life it is fast because it gets me where I want to go faster as long as there are not slower cars (even with more HP) in front of me.

It's slow compared to most other performance oriented cars.

For the record, I always say no.

I will admit that the thought of saying "Yes, it's faster than you." has crossed my mind.
