Now that I've been on a drive with Ultra 2 times, I want to go on a drive with @Tcoat at least once - maybe next year when I have vacation hours stocked up again

I also want to go on a drive with @humfrz but he seems a bit secretive...

You may be a bit disappointed with the local roads here I am afraid. We can go eat though!

(Unless I can ever afford both)
Have you driven an E46 M3? People went on and on about it, but I drove one rather extensively and I didn't like it at all. Shifter feel is garbage, steering feel is garbage, the motor felt torqueless, the tinny rasp (which so many people love) was incredibly aggravating. This car was somewhat tired with ~120k miles and -worst of all- it was a convertible, but I still figured I'd get some of that ///M "juice" that so many people have told me I need to experience.

Drove an E92 as well, albiet briefly, and I got the same feeling from that car. A Luxo-Barge that wasn't really designed for drivers, but had enough pedigree to fool people. The E30 I drove was nice though! It wasn't an M3, just a 325is, and it felt great. Far from stock though.

I'm a bit of a hater though. I despise Audis as well, having beaten on many S4s, S5s, and even an R8 V10. They all just pretend to be sports cars but don't give you any of the enjoyment of driving. Genuinely disappointing. Plus the concept of "German Engineering" is a complete scam, as the Germans build their cars as lazily as the Americans, just fool people into thinking it's clever. But that's a topic for another day...

God, I love to rant.

The last BMW I was truly fond of was the E36, but finding one that hasn't been bro'ed out is getting difficult.

4 door E36 M3 or an E30 325 with a s54 swap (cuz e39 M3 is almost as expensive as a new twin)

Nah, just get an E34 rather than try to track down a clean E39. If you know a guy who can do the valve adjustment for an E34, it's a relatively painless car to own.

That's fine! Just a gentle cruise, puttering around is fine by me. Hell, we can go in the middle of town and just wave at random people for shits and giggles.

@Ultramaroon
Here's a clip that I mentioned earlier. So many mistakes, going into blind crest and blind corner too hot. Really forced myself to not panic brake or else things may have been more hairy.

If so, then perhaps there is something to what he was saying. But above all, your own visceral experience is the only litmus test for how "good" a car is. Because even that same "tinny" exhaust note that I dislike, might bring joy to the heart and soul of another. And if you enjoy a car, and it makes you happy, then it's a good car no matter what anyone says.

Well, now, I don't mean to be "secretive" ....... I'm just hard to pin down.

mrs humfrz and I are providing day care (before and after school) for our two granddaughters ..... which pins us down on the weekdays.

The weekends are tough to figure because I don't much like driving around in the rain ....... sometimes I just don't feel up to listening to mrs humfrz "gasp", pound her foot in the floorboard and state "I just know I'm going to die in this car"..........

And then there are my naps ....... mid morning and mid afternoon........

Besides, with my nameless muffler and K&N drop in air filter ....... I'm not sure you could keep up. Even if you could, you most likely would tire of looking at my turn signal, which I usually leave on.

Then, when I do get on the road, I have to stop at every rest stop and overview pull out ...... because I can't remember being there. While stopped, might as well have a smoke, take a leak and rest my eyes for a few minutes. Yep, going around Mt Rainier can be a two day trip for us.

Well, let me elaborate a bit. The 240z it would potentially replace was supposed to be get a good budget (complete, custom build) so a lot of money would go towards improving the E46. A couple of facts, you said the shifter sucked, but I would get the SMG, so don't have to worry about that. The engine would get completely reworked/built and would come out new, i.e. not tired. And hopefully it would end up a bit more reliable. There would be some forced induction, that fixes your torque issue. And the exhaust would most likely not stay stock. Honestly, I'd love for it to pop/crackle.

But really, it's interesting coming in the way I have. Before I got the FR-S I was not a car person. In the last three years I've learned a considerable amount, though I can't say I'm much of an official car guy. So a lot of what I like is extremely personal preference, and I'm hard to influence. I don't like the E46 because everyone else does. I don't like it because it's considered the ultimate driver by some.

I like it because of those stupid fender vents.

"Oh shit" is right! Major pucker factor. Thank you for sharing. Not much traction while you're airborne. That was a fun turn for sure.

Stop over the west side of the sound sometime. I can run you around Dewatto and Tehuya in Kitsap. A run through Thorndyke or up to PT can be fun across the bridge too.

Need to give it a week or two to get all the trees off the roads after this weekend.
