2018 BRZ
I bought my 2018 BRZ about a week ago, pretty much brand new only had 40 miles on it,premium model. I’m just posting cause I haven’t driven a stick in about 8 years since I totaled my 95 celica. The more I drive the car the more I notice noises , like when releasing the clutch and shifting gears, I don’t remember hearing the these things in my celica but maybe just forgot the sounds of a manual changing gears..so I’m just winding it it normal to hear stuff when shifting and using the clutch, I’m probably being neurotic but it’s kinda worrying me a bit.

It's not normal when changing gears. I have just one problem with shifting from 1st to 2nd kind of hitting the metal, to avoid it I shift from 1st to neutral wiggle a bit shift it 2nd, this is annoying since rev drops. Other than that I don't hear anything while shifting all the way to 6. Sometimes I change from 4th to 6th.
FYI, I drove manual/stick car 25 years ago. |

I dunno I think I’m just being over anylitic of my new purchase , my local subor dealer has a thing where If I come in to the dealership 2 weeks after purchase and “ask questions about my car” I get a25$ gas card, so when I go in I’ll just ask if I can drive a 2019 and see if I hear all the same noises, if I do I know I’m just being paranoid

My 2017 made more clutch clunking noises than I was used to as well. Dealer said it's normal and 1.5 years and ~9000 miles later all is good and still same noises. The car overall seems to have less noise damping than others.

95 celica = transaxle transmission, very different connection to the stick..the tranny & drive shaft are right under your butt. this platform has very little refinement and sound deadening, it was not a priority when Toyota & Subaru developed the twins...

Having the diff in the rear also transmits lots of thumps into the cabin on shifts. When I first got my FRS I wasn’t bothered by all the tranny noises because it was no different than other RWD cars I’d had in the past. For me it was the engine noises that had me stressed. To me the engine sounds like it’s about to have a bearing failure but it’s actually just normal for it to sound like crap. I did the same thing you want to do, go test drive another one. It sounded the same.

From what I understand it’s the fuel injectors or somthing making that clicking noise ? And can be fixed by replacing them ? It doesn’t bother me if it’s not a problem tho, I just get a little neurotic whenever I spen a lot of money, even tho I have all the protection plans Subaru offers on the car so if somthing goes seriously wrong I should be covered anyway, I think just about everything is covered except ware parts like breaks clutch and all that

Pretty much the same thing here. I just got my new 86 last friday and I was suprise how much "mechanical" noises I can here from the shifter and the transmission.
I don't recall hearing that during the test drive months ago, but I was so exited to finally drive one, that it must have been the same without me noticing anything. The main diffrence with you I think, is that I'm not concerned about those noises, I just find it really nice to "feel" the car that much. |
