Both of my lights arrived at the dealership after 1 week. They are waiting on some sort of gaskets however. They seem to think that this is the source of the problem.

My FR-S has the condensation problems. I wanted a different set of tails anyway, so I order the Colin tails from japanparts. After installing them, even these aftermarket ones are having condensation issues. After further inspection, there really isn't a good enough seal between the taillight and the body panels. In fact, you can pretty much see daylight through the gap. Stock (from the factory, before ever touching it) and aftermarket, this persists as an issue. I might just dry them out, seal them up the best I can myself, and try to make some kind of a rubber seal myself.

I think this is the issue at the source. Even with aftermarket tails, they don't form a good enough seal to the body panels, even when tightened in the correct order and to torque specs. Keeping the water out of the trunk, and maybe covering the open side of the taillight (where the wires come out) with tape may actually cut down on the moisture and condensation issues.

The lights are not supposed to "seal" with the body panels from what I can tell. The units are sealed to themselves and overtightening cracks the plastic. At least that is the official word.

this is a great idea, and may be what needs to be done, have we been able to identify the location of water ingress? is slicone or grease an option at those points? I have a set on order...

At least with the Colin aftermarket tail lights, I can look through the trunk and see daylight past the housings. I'm equally worried about the condensation and about water/mold in the trunk.

I'm going to reinstall the stock housings (now that they're nice and dried out) and see if there is the same gap. If so, it's a stupid design to allow water into the trunk, behind the interior panel. I'm definitely going to tape up the housings either way.

Agreed, just for a test. I'd want to use a better sealing method for a "final fix." If the tail light housings have condensation or not, I'm still concerned with the water coming into the trunk.

My right one used to have the condensation fairly often, now it does not and my left one does it once in a while. ><

Over lunch hour I took the Colin tail lights out and noticed the gaskets from the stockers didn't stay put, which is more than likely why I had water in my trunk and condensation in the aftermarket tail lights. I reapplied them, but not before tracing some templates so I can make my own out of a better (and slightly thicker) silicone or neoprene foam. The stock gaskets are about $11 each, but I venture to say that even new, fresh stock ones would suck.
