First Check Engine Light and Traction control

Sigh...so had the car for two days and 230 miles and the car throws up a CEL and Traction Light. There may have been some but nothing serious. Plan on going to get it checked tomorrow because thats the correct thing to do; however, to satiate my curiosity i connected my OBD2 scanner but it would not connect. Any ideas why or would a two year old scanner just not be supported?

Edit: I already know about the other threads addressing this problem...i was just curious about the Scanner not working with ECU and why it might not.

Did you shut off and restart the car. Did you try it on another car?

Yes...still wasnt reading and code wasnt cleared. I did clear the code by Hard reset (battery) and the Scanner still wouldnt read ECU...kept saying wouldnt connect...but connected just fine to several other cars afterwards and before...

Most likely your scan tool does not support CAN communication

Now i am confused...dont most other (if not all) OBD2 cars use the same CAN ISO Standards? Does this ECU actually use a CAN Standard that is that new? It worked 2 hours ago on a new GT, an 09 Dakota and an 05 Spec-V...

According to Scion "No," but I have a feeling there is a large population of cars that have this issue. Too many to be coincidence, that's for sure.

My Scion Dealership is being honest with me....They told me straight up that A LOT of FR-S were coming in the dealerships due to bad timing actuators and that over 200 engines have had to be rebuilt so far. A few transmissions didn't receive ANY fluid and transmissions were blown, and too many dealerships are being asshats and putting 87 in the cars and messing up the engines from day one! there are a lot of issues, with all the time they have had to refine the design and get this car to production it seems like they just wanted it to look amazing but not stay running amazing. LOOKS AWESOME SITTING STILL!....which it will be....

When they decide they've had enough hype in the car and their rage boners from all the profit go down they will start sorting out problems in mass quantities as opposed to this CASE BY CASE shit and playing off rebuilding motors as nothing to worry about.

No offense but "waiting it out" is exactly why some dealers don't get s%&t done. You have to put pressure on some of them if you want things done completely and in a any timely manner. TOYOTA isn't the problem. I've been working on cars for 20 years now and it always seems that any dealership that is allowed to walk on you. Will.

Just look at the huge difference in how dealerships are ran. Look up "stevens Creek Scion" on Yelp and see how bad they treated litterally 100's of customers over the years, and compare it to other scion or toyota dealerships just across town. Why? Because they are terribly managed and walk on customers. It's why the do crap business in comparison. They quoted and sold me a product that was "in stock" but in actuality wasn't even produced yet. It wasn't even an actual option available for anyone at the time, but it went from "in stock", to "tomorrow" to "next week" to "we dont know" to "refund". They just saw $$$ and lied. Then I had 4 people tell me they would call me with details. 0 calls back, why, cause they don't give a s%*t.
http://www.yelp.com/biz/stevens-creek-scion-san-jose

They only reason I got anything done by that staff is because I made noise after trying to wait it out

Just picked up my BRZ today with 11KM on it.. Drove it around the city for about 40KM and noticed the car shake at the stop light.. Rev was studdering.. and then the CEL and Traction control light came on permanently..

The car is sitting at 57KM.. Does anybody know what the cause of the problem is? Im bringing it back to the dealer tomorrow morning but deciding whether to drive it there or get it flatbed towed there. I've heard stories about manufacturers not putting any transmission oil in it.
