No that was just normal driving on poor quality fuel, our fuel in Australia is almost as bad as that iam around 0.5 and heaps of knock, that was pretty well the reason I started messing with tunes to make my car work better on our poor quality fuels

IAM = ignition advance multiplier. That means full timing. Which is around 20 degrees iirc in the stock map.

If my local fuel was that bad Id blend with toluene or some other octane booster like klotz. My local 93 AKI is pretty good. I'm able to run ~24 degrees timing up top (with no FLKC) and hit MBT through the midrange. E85 can run that up top you can actually go past 30 which is usually too much.

With the turbo now the most I can run on 93 is about 14 degrees to be conservative...

Awesome, thank you. Is it possible to view this in torque pro?

Yes, but in this case the ECU is replaced as a matter of repair procedure, not because the ECU is defective.

So the discussion around powertrain and basic warranty is the key. The Clean Air Act has no coverage or relevance here.

Engine
Cylinder block and head and all
internal parts, timing gears and
gaskets, timing chain/belt and cover,
flywheel, valve covers, oil pan, oil
pump, engine mounts, turbocharger
housing and all internal parts, super
charger housing and all internal parts,
engine control computer, water pump,
fuel pump, seals and gaskets.

The cam sensor is also covered under warranty
I just read the entire Warranty booklet for 2014 for Subaru. It blanket covers all models of Subaru including BRZ.

Unless Subaru has a completely different warranty coverage, it does NOT cover electronics under powertrain.

The ECU is already covered by the mandated Federal warranty.

I'm just going off what you described... P0018 is a sensor issue and if, during the process of repair, you replace the ECU as part of the repair procedure, then the replacement part is replaced as covered by normal warranty and not powertrain. P0018 is NOT a "ECU defective" issue so that portion of the emissions warranty does not come into play.

I am a second owner of a 2013 FRS with 65k miles, bought it with 30k miles 3 years ago. I've only ever had two issues with this car, first i had to replace the clutch and flywheel around 35k miles (not covered under warranty because of excessive wear, turns out the previous owner did not know how to shift, I bought the car from an older woman). This was about 2.5k

The other issue was the wheel studs kept breaking every time I took the tires of, after the first time it happened i replaced only the broken studs. When it happened again I replaced all of the studs on all the wheels, problem solved (for now).

I should also mention that I don't baby my FRS, i drive the damn thing (sometimes my foot gets heavy) but I think the car is holding up pretty good considering that it was the first year of production.

Here is a tsb for the cam sensor. Scroll down till you see a giant red box that says "this is covered under the limited power train warranty"

That is not for the P0018 issue though.

I got this issue last week @47K miles... I will be taking mine to the dealership to see if I can get it fixed under warranty... but we shall see.

So tell me... where on that TSB does it say "P0018"?

Also, is your VIN BEFORE the applicable VIN on that TSB? If so, perhaps it will apply. If not, you referencing the TSB shows that you do not have a clear understanding of how TSBs work.

No no, I popped error code p0018 and brought it to the dealer. The 1st approach they took was to replace the cam sensors. If that's what they did then I would assume it was covered because this tsb states it is.

I didn't get charged for them doing it

I make 2 years with my 2015 in july, i am currently at 28,000 miles. I have had 2 codes appear in the life of the car, all before mods such as headers and tune and the whole deal. The code was for the camshaft position sensor. Appeared once after i got gas and once sitting in traffic. Took it to toyota, they had the car for 2 days and blamed it on an open gas cap. As a mechanic for a living i know this wasnt the case but i rolled with it. They cleared it and it has never came back. (Knock on wood). Point is these cars have a weird temper they either like you or they dont. Toyota made a mistake working with subaru with this car and the early 2013/2014 cars clearly show it. Never buy a first gen car.

I stand by my previous statement, that you have a poor understanding of how TSBs work.
