How dose the sound tube work? Dose it pull air through it as well? Interesting you got more power with it.
The sound tube is supposed to bring the sound into the cabin of the car. It is weird it causes a loss of power.

How many miles were on the car when you did these runs?

Is the sound tube hollow? How is it connected to the main intake, meaning can air go from the intake into the sound tube?

If the sound tube delete lost power Im guessing it pulls air through it or it has something to do with turbulence.

I would think it's hollow. If you look at this picture, the airbox is in the top right corner, and the red plug is where the sound tube would connect to.

There is no air that passes through the sound tube.

When Injen put my intake on, they also did a sound tube delete, and it's clear that it's a path for sound waves, only.

Deleting the sound tube does not lose power, what lost power was allowing the car the cool off between runs. Pcasso if you have a chance do back to back runs with out letting the car cool offf once the sound tube has been removed. When I dyno'd my car the last of three back to back pulls always showed the highest torque and horsepower figures, and once I let the car cool off, I was back to square one, even after removing the sound tube. Scientifically, do three runs, back to back to back. Do not let the car cool off, then do three back to back to back runs with the tube removed, all you have to do is disconnect it, and install the plug (taking the time to completely remove it will allow the car to cool off. I learned this from experience.

I wonder if you just did three runs back-to-back with no changes whatsoever - what would be the normal run-to-run variations? Seems like these small changes could well be within the "noise" and natural variation of the system.

Those dynos are all basically the same in my eyes. You get the much variance between runs even with the exact same conditions.

thanks for posting this up and doing your own little experiments, much appreciated. So with this test it looks like all drop in air filters are useless and make no difference to power.

If you look at the stock filter it is very thin and prob one of the less restrictive oem filters i have ever seen. Dont think a drop in will bring much gain.

dyno's give you a very small window into a cars performance.......the shape of the power curve is FAR more important than its "peak" numbers....for example the Supra you posted is typical for a large turbo Supra power curve......HORRIBLE down low, then a HUGE spike in torque....makes driveability awful....there is reason you rarely ever see a Supra on a road course......

There already is a test with the Apexi drop in filter adding 2-3 WHP.

Its somewhere in the forum, I think car journals, Albino Racing something like that.

The sound tube has a Diaphragm close to the firewall, that acts like a speaker to allow sound waves to enter the cabin. No air, only sound waves.

Thanks, but I still don't completely understand. If no air goes in to the sound tube why do you need to plug the odd shaped outlet? It seems like that whole connection area would be a downfall and just make turbulence.

Anyone have a pic of sound tube end where it connects to the intake?

I'm sorry, I didn't explained well. I believe air does go into the tube but stops at the diaphragm. What I meant to say was no air goes inside the cabin. I think the air does not create a turbulence, because (and this is just strictly IMHO) the sound tube just fills with air one time to move the sound waves and that's it. It is not continuously sucking air at various speeds which would create the turbulence.

Here are some pics. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7975
