The problem area is very easy to get to; pry off the two fake carbon fiber portions on your dash, unbolt the upper vent, and then pry it out (gently).

The issue is that the the dash isn't lifting because its multiple layers are separating; rather, it's just not tied down/clipped to anything other than in the direct center so when it gets hot, it expands and pulls up since it cant go out. I put a few thin pieces of double sided tape between that portion of the dash and the back of the vent; we'll see how well it holds.
Hey man, is the vent just bolted by the 2 screws at the bottom after lifting off the face cf trim around the head unit? Thanks!

I noticed this phenomenon on a used 2013 i was looking at, i ended up getting a 2015 and that's the thing i have been keeping an eye on each time i look the car over for any possible delaminations/defects. Based on some of the posts i've seen here, i am going to be getting a sun shade just in case.

Took apart the assembly today, will do a detailed writeup tonight. Finally go not to a point where I'm decently happy as a DIY.

I had a similar issue on my previous car where the dash was literally melting from the Florida sun... was hoping to not have any issues like that with this car... I want to keep it from happening, but I hate freaking sun shades

hey guys, I made a quick DIY of how to get to the problem areas. This may or may not work for you depending on the type of damage you have but at least it will help you diagnose the problem further by having a fully exposed work area.

I had some tint film laying around in my basement, and I had the idea of putting on a windshield strip on my BRZ. I've done all that in the garage, and later that day, I took the car out, parked it randomly, and the tint is now creating a shade right where the dash is going crazy. What if this is actually a great solution for this? And it looks awesome as well.

@Moskoi had the same idea although depending on time of day, it won't cover it. Bust as far as hottest hours of the day, it'll definitely get a lot of coverage. Going to get this done later ad well. Looks great!

When the stars align, wonders can happen.

(Looks OK btw)

I have a dash-mat, mainly to reduce reflection in the screen. I backed with aluminium kitchen foil to keep heat out of the dash. I did the same with our previous car and on removal 17 years later, the dash was as new.

If it gets worse definitely bring it up to the dealership. Then get a sunshade! Mine was a little wise than yours when the dealership replaced mine.
