Truthfully their is no good time from where your coming from. I would say your best bet would to leave at 10 and pick it up and head back asap. Freeway will probably have traffic all the way there and back still.

I drive around LA for work.
Leave your house at 10:00am. Avoid the 405. If there is no accidents you should be fine. And get out of DTLA before 3pm and you will be fine. I'm sure you know about the 101 traffic after 3pm heading North. Last piece of advice. Get In and Get out! FAST! |

I live right by there and pass it daily on my way to work.
Your best bet: Leave Ventura at 9AM. Take the 118 > 210 > 605 > 60 and you'll have no traffic. Leave this area and go home around noon/1PM and you'll be fine going back on the same route. Avoid downtown at all costs on a weekday unless you want to risk traffic. Use the traffic function on Google Maps and change from live traffic to a specific day/time for reference. You can see the random BS traffic on the westside as well as around DTLA on the 5/101 midday. -alex |
