I Did a Thing

I went and bought a brand new 2015 WRB BRZ Sport-tech (Premium) and I'm going to pick it up on Tuesday.

Some of you guys may remember me saying I was going to wait for the news on the 2017 model but the deal that I got was too good to pass up and I don't think it's going to be significant anyways and will only include exterior cosmetic changes.

It was $27000 before taxes, which I'll exclude since it differs on where we all live. For all you Americans that's $19500.

How'd I do for the pricing guys?

For the 500th time on here you can not take the exchange rate and apply it to Canadian prices and say something cost you X amount. The value of the item does not reduce because you applied an international exchange rate. You paid $27K for it not $19K. Now if you get paid in US $s came up here and bought one and took it back THEN you would have paid $19K yes.
The opposite would apply if you went to the US and bought it with Canadian dollars. If you went across the border and bought one for $27K at the current rate it would seem that you paid $38K. Anybody selling $38 Twins in the States?
Does your pay go up and down based on the US dollar? If you make $30 a year then buyng the car cost you most of a year's pay not just half a year's. The money from the exchange rate doesn't just magically disappear during the transaction and in Canada a Canadian dollar is one dollar.

As per my post above by playing the exchange rate = price game that means you paid $36694.55 for it. Don't be jealous!

Ah but you can absent all other transaction costs because this is a perfect example of arbitrage at its base. Now the question would become how much of that roughly 8,000 USD saved would get eaten up in the transaction costs (taxes, customs, etc.) to get a Canadian FR-S back stateside and legal to register while the exchange rate is in the favor of the U.S. purchaser.....Ok, I'm done applying the 50,000 foot view from my MBA courses involving international business, monetary policy, and product sourcing transactions.

I am strictly talking value of the dollar here so come on back down to about 50 feet. All the other things would add costs certainly but again you can not apply the exchange rate to those costs and say the car cost more or less because of it.

I think getting people to understand relativity would be easier than getting them to understand the impact of the exchange rate on local purchases.

I think it's a great price, assuming you don't care that it's a '15.

I managed to get my '14 in 2014 at $29000 on a lease. That price was the cash purchase price, and I have 0.9% interest.

Heh, it was a reference to CSN and the marginal math that was displayed above. If you want to make it about Canuckistanian currency and measurements that's ok too
