My First Mistake

About a month ago I made my first mistake with the BRZ. I was with a friend who just moved back into town (from the East Coast) and had never ridden in a BRZ before but we both followed the car fanatically for years. Knowing he would appreciate it we went for a drive and to have a bit of fun...

The drive went well and we were at the tail end of an hour long journey when I pulled up to my favorite spot to do burn outs. I like this spot because it's a low traffic T intersection with a wide berth and no obstacles. I pulled up along the vertical axis of the T, came to a complete stop and turned the traction control off.

As you can imagine, things didn't go as expected. The conditions were saturated (very rainy) and I kept my foot on the gas a bit too long. The car came to an abrubt stop shortly after sliding off the road. I didn't really think much of it, I got out and checked for damages and didn't see any. I realized later I was wrong, there was some damage to the underbody and I had to call my insurance. Wah-wahhhh

TL : DR Took a corner too hard after a stop sign with my traction control off and heavy rain, ended up sliding off the road. $2,500 in damages, all repair work has been completed and the car is new and beautiful again.

They aren't THAT bad. Though considering how many FR-S have been crashed, I wonder about them.

It wasn't even really a crash, it was at 20mph tops, I didn't come in contact with anyone or anything else except for some dirt. Honestly couldn't even tell there were damages until I got low enough to see the under side.

Dirt generally doesn't bend things, you probably hit some rocks. Hope you learned something.

My 01 S2000 was just totaled out from a deer and it turns out insurance for me with a BRZ would be the same price as it was with the S2000. *shrug*

Yes it was, you lost control of the vehicle.

That was really dumb. Really, really dumb. What on Earth possessed you to do that?

*shrug* What I learned is that I don't have as much control as I thought I did, its been humbling. I will continue to make mistakes and I will never stop learning.

Making mistakes is part of life, it's how you learn. Just make sure not to damage/hurt anyone else by making mistakes on public roads

I went out to a parking lot and gave up after 5 minutes. The car is unruly without TCS in the wet.

Dude fuck these people that are giving you shit, whatever you made a mistake. I did pretty much the same thing as you but I hit an embankment and blew out both passenger tires and damaged front bumber, same sheet metal damage as you. It ended up costing $5,000. Took 3 weeks but its back and I learned avaluable lesson. I now never take off TRC and SVC completely unless in an empty parking lot. Sport mode is fun enough on roads.
