You have to read Autoblog soooo carefully as they frequently inject ignorant editorial within actual quotes. Like this one:

Awesome. I was hoping that the FR-S/BRZ would spark a revival in lightweight RWD sports cars. Looks like it may have started. Can't wait to see some legitimate rivals to the Twins out there. Don't screw this up, GM.

it looks hideous. like a piece of chewed bubble gum. sorry GM, but you need to do something with your body styles if you wanna be competetive.

Good luck GM. This will need to be stellar to be well received, because looking at history...

I hope this car gets its own platform. One of the reasons the BRZ drives so differently from other Subarus (i.e., like a proper sports car) is that the engineers were largely given the freedom to start with a blank slate design. A lot of inherent advantages to this. It's also probably the reason why Reuss doubted whether Toyota/Subaru is actually making any money off the Twins. I'd imagine it can be prohibitively expensive designing a new car from the ground up that doesn't share its platform with a high-volume model (see all the econobox-based hot hatches and sedans out there today).

It looks like a failed version of a compact muscle car. No likes.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this. Knowing them, it will weigh about 2,990lbs and probably be powered by a turbo 1.4 putting out about 220hp. Sure it may beat it in some stats, but the FR-S will still dominate this, if it ever sees production.

It looks like a grotesque genetic experiment between a Camaro, a Malibu and a Cavalier. WTF. Bring back the Trans Am (lighter, turbo 6, solid) you fools and hire a new design team.. It will be like the good old days when Regal's and Grand National's lurked the streets.

I remember this car last year. Reminded me of the BMW 1-series coupe.

Eh, I kind of like it. If it had a decent powerplant, a solid 6-speed manual, and weighed less than 3,000lbs, I would buy it. True, the body isn't very stylish and kind of looks like a baby Camaro to me, but I think it's cool that GM is sort of staying true to its roots and not mimicking Japanese car's architecture.
I think they should offer it with a turbo inline-4 and it would be f-ing sick with the v6 engine from the Camaro RS. The Camaro's v6 engine does sound like crap though, imo, despite have a good hp/liter. If only they could make it sound like Ford's v6 from the 'stang...
