Airbag disable for track / drifting? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I was wondering if there would be any way to easily disable the airbags, or at least the side ones, for a day at the track, especially for those that want to drift. After some digging I have found that some newer cars don't play nice with G-forces in all different directions

Maybe there is some info on this hidden within brochure's for the stripped down version? Just curious, thanks!

Most racing groups require you to pull the fuse

Don't know, but I plan on removing all the airbags completly.

I've never once seen this with NASA, Trackdaze, SCCA, PCA, BMW-CCA, or a few smaller groups.

But if you are concerned, yeah, just pull the fuse.

I looked that up and you are right. I'm not sure where I picked that up at, I remember reading to pull the fuse somewhere.

Easy enough with just ripping the fuse. I only asked because this car seemed like a possible candidate for an airbag disable switch or something to a similar tune.

Will it throw a CEL that has to be re-set if you pull the fuse, though?

If you look at the Owner's Manual (pg 111-112), the side airbags won't deploy like the those on the Camaro. In fact, the side airbags are "unlikely to deploy" in the event of a roll over, which is why the Camaro's bags deployed; it thought the car was going to roll over and deployed them as an pre-emptive measure.

I'm slide once. It was raining and I was going too fast. But I heal-toed my way to glory impressing a friend who was following me. The moral of the story is that if you don't hit anything than you don't have to worry about the airbags going off.

If you are still running stock seat and belt, leave the stock safety system as it is. It all works together to keep you happy.

Personally, I want every system in place to keep my head attached to my neck. Especially on track.
