Had a suspension failure and went into the wall. One wheel lost a chunk, the other one is grinded down from scraping along the wall. Both of them held air and are still round, but I wouldnt use them in that state. They both took the brunt of the impact and resulted in very little damage to the chasis (couple of control arms bent, and a bit of body work to do).

Any idea on a timeline? This seems like a good option to try out.

I couldn't get a definitive answer, but it sounds like it'll be next year sometime.

I have a set of Kosei k1-Ts 17x7 14lbs~ and a set of konig hypergrams 18x8.5 18lbs. Staying with the Kosei and a 225/45 is 25lbs per tire @ 156lbs total. If I moved up to 245/40/18 26.6lbs per tire on the konigs it would be 178lbs total. So question is it worth the extra weight to go to the larger tire, or is a lighter setup better.
for context, this is a track only car, NA for now (maybe next year FI). BBK, Fortune autos 8k fronts, 6k rear (I believe, cant quite remember), stock sway bars. The car has a good bit of oversteer on the 225/45/17s which I realize could probably be toned down with suspension settings, and my own driving habits. But I need new tires any way so just wanted to hear opinions on this one aspect. I know its nit-picky and probably will be fine either way.

FWIW, I ran 225 NT01's a bunch this year and could get the rear to break free "if I wanted". My car is pretty neutral in terms of set up (may be similar to yours???....spring rates are identical). I like your thinking, but ultimately I think the only way to figure out your answer is going to be data given that it's a relatively small change in the grand scheme of things. Anybody here has had the car reach or go past 130MPH? I want to know if you experience vibration or shake. When my car reaches 130 at the track I feel a vibration in the seat (not the steering wheel). I have changed the wheels and tires as it's what everybody said was the problem and there was no change. I have upgraded motor mounts, tranny mount, cf drive shaft, diff brace, clutch, and flywheel.
Any ideas? |

Recently have driven on a couple of tracks that have an uphill transition in a heavy braking zone before a corner. I'm using the compression to really help get the car slowed quickly, and am trying to trail brake into the corner.
The steering is really heavy in this circumstance. Normal? Suspect it is and I'm just now driving hard enough to notice it. Thanks. |
