When we stayed in new York we were just a couple of blocks from Grand Central Station. When I would get up early and go down to the street for a smoke I got to watch all the locals headed for the train to go to work. EVERY SINGLE ONE had these things shoved in their ears. It was as if there was a law requiring them. It was such an obvious thing that I even mentioned it to Ultra and our wives when they all eventually woke up around mid day. I get that they are native New Yorkers and therefore immune to the hazards but if I was walking down those busy roads I would want to hear what was going on around me.

It is a language that incorporates aspects from about a dozen other languages. It is amazing it works at all much less that it is the second most common language in the world.

Well combined with Mandarin to form the general category of "Chinese" yes.

I overload on the train pretty easily if I don't do things to isolate myself. I get claustrophobic in crowds. And some of the noises can be quite loud when it comes to trains... At least the one I ride. Engines, track squeal, braking noise, bells... So the passive isolation I get also helps.

You can't hear what I'm listening to though... And I can sometimes hear what others are listening to (at least the high frequency bit)., usually that means I need new foams. I can still hear a lot of what's going on around, though the isolation makes it quieter (max 28dB).

All that to say... I'm agree in a lot of ways, but also one of the people you're judging. Though if I were in NY I'd want to do everything I could to pretend I weren't.

Oh I don't mean on the trains that makes sense. I mean walking down the road to get to the trains. The cars will head right onto the sidewalks to get around traffic or pop out of alleys and parking garages at random places. I would want to hear them coming! As I said though they are used to it so there was no judgement intended just an observation.

No worries they are making Cantonese illegal so everyone will have to speak Mandrin soon enough.

Japanese period is tough. There are so many dialects too. What they speak in the Ryuku islands is a blend of so many languages some of the words are slang swears in mainland Japanese.

Ugh, I hate being stuck... I keep having new ideas but I don't want to spend anymore money until I open my business bank account, but I can't do that until I have a DBA from the secretary of state, and even though you can do that online, my operating name is too similar to the legal name of my business so the system thinks it's already taken. The only way to do it the way I want is to mail in a form and a check for $20. So I'll mail that today, wait however long that takes, then open the bank account and proceed to spend all my money.
