If this is still happening on the 2014's that is pathetic. If the revised gaskets and tsb screwing down properly deal didn't work (like it would, haha), this could be a bigger design flaw...

At the current high failure rate I'm sure we will see this more often.

I got a bit of condensation on my passenger side the other week... I took it off, dried in the over for about an hour @ 185F. While this was happening I noticed that the gasket material is not exactly resilient or dense enough to stop water. The material they used is a joke, like somebody decided, hey I have this roll leftover in my moms attic from her sewing days, lets use that.

So I ordered myself some closed cell high density neoprene rubber sheets and I am going to make myself a gasket like the ones on this forum and then seal the top of the tail light where it meets the body panel.

I know we as owners shouldn't have to solve Toyotas design flaws but I love driving this car too much to care or to wait for some corporate lackey to pull his head out of his ass and resolve something that a 5th grader could of done using a crush and resiliency test in their science project.

I showed my salesman before driving off the lot, he agreed it was the usual problem. It's all fixed now, so no problem~

It is kind of a design flaw. The edge of the rear light housing ins inline with the trunk rain channel. so even if it is "sealed" I think winter melt/refreeze will always cause water to get into the rear light.

If not sure what I mean I can get a picture from my trunk and show.

I've previously had my tail lights replaced due to about an inch of water in each. Now I've got water in there again. Annoying.

There is a natural channel for water to continually assault the gasket.

I used snowman snot ( dollar store gooey gum for post it notes on fridge )
built a dam and water channel (placement is obvious) dribble water and modify the snot so the water flows away from the top of the gasket.

Instantly removable always pliable - re-usable.

So far so good for me - waiting for more severe temp and humidity changes for the long term test - will try to post pics soon.

:happy0180:
The snot is gooey enough to survive freezing thawing without loosing its seal.
