Rust Proofing
Hey guys,
Its getting to that time of year. I dont have the luxury of having a second car for the winter so my DD is my BRZ. Where do you guys get rust proofing for your cars? I heard Krown was a popular choice? |

What's the consensus for just oil spraying the underbody VS drilling homes and putting oil in the doors?

These vehicles have pre drilled holes from factory, do not let any rust proofing place drill holes in it, if there drilling holes there spraying it places it doesnt need to be

I have not bothered. It isn't a 1982 Chevette that will rust away in 4 years. The modern rust resistance of body panels is so good that spraying shit on top of them is meaningless.

If you really must, look into Liquid Film. It can be cleaned off. We use it on farm equipment with good success..

I've used FluidFilmXP for 3 winters, no signs of rust yet. My car came from Texas ( spoiler, I live in Vermont) and had no undercoating, was just painted metal. So far with the FluidFilm XP applications, all seems well.
To another point, no car is completely immune and will weather eventually, you're just delaying the inevitable. Best defense is to DD something else in the winter if you're worried about it seasonally. I will add that TCoat is right, a lot more efforts ( hopefully) go into designing a car that is far less prone to rusting from sour spots. This is not true if you have rock chips / dents that you do not get fixed that expose bare metal ( yes, this includes that time you bottomed out but nobody can see under your car so you think it doesn't matter) A film application isn't that expensive and may be good peace at mind if you're really worried. At the end of the day, you hold the key to your own destiny; if you think it needs it, do it. |

I had dealer rust proofing done for free. I took it to Krown this year as well.
