Appreciable differences between the Subaru vs. Scion are the purchasing experience, warranty policies, and customer service. Brand snobbery matters only if you let marketing, which is completely fabricated, get to you. And this shouldn't be worth mentioning but the premium you pay for the Subaru covers the extra amenities which cost less upfront than modding them later into an FR-S.
The rest of this argument has been beaten to death and resurrected 10x over. This car wouldn't exist if you take either brand out of the partnership. Some contributions from either side can be broken down into percentages but *not all*. Toyota "hiring" Subaru to do the work is hardly the full picture. That only explains the transfer of funds in upper management/bureaucracy levels. At the lower level which counts, both brands assembled Team 86/Team BRZ (official names) mixing internal employees with external contractors/suppliers. It was a dedicated think tank that followed neither brands' conventions 100%. All both brands did was pour money into the think tank; neither deserve full credit for the legwork of their brainchild. How much each Toyota, Subaru, or external employee contributed within that think tank is UNKNOWN and CANNOT be debated. I don't think this has been emphasized enough before. Other than that, please stop polluting this thread. How members on this forum repeatedly fail to understand the simple concept of "collaboration" blows my mind. On I get it.. But what I'm trying to explain, is I was called an idiot, albeit not in those words, because I won't buy a Subaru, but already have one, I just asked why spend the extra money on the same car..
@civdaddy 3 and 4 is good points, the rest are all up to the owner.. Looks of the BRZ bumper are ok, I don't think it's ugly.. But I do like the FRS grill a bit better, I like the BRZ headlights and side grills.. Handling, and I've driven both, is damn near the same.. I personally couldn't notice a difference, but it was in regular city traffic not a track or very spirited.. Kinda like my 2011 GSXR 750 as soon as the magazine co said the 600 flicked just a bit better, that's all you heard on the forums, they bought the 600 because it handles better.. Well it does because of the smaller weight of the crank shaft, it's the same chassis.. They hear it in a mag and swear they felt the same.. I like the dash of the FRS better, from the "T" in the dash panels to the silver on the tach, I like that all better.. But you do have a point with number 5.. I wish I had the seats and push button start.. I've already retrofitted better projectors so that's not a issue for me.. I guess I should've made my point as, I will not buy a car through SoA.. That would be better lol |

The brand snobbery is hilarious. These cars roll off the line side by side.

BRZ vs. FR-S is the new STI vs. Evo. hahaha
You guys, seriously? They're just preferences. If I didn't live in Alaska and KNEW I was going to track my car, I would've just got the Scion. Damn the brand, it's about the content. Most anything can be swapped, but it's just a matter of what you're WILLING to swap. Case in point: I was seriously considering the Premium BRZ because I didn't want the spoiler that came with the Limited... Like really?! I was willing to lose out on ALL of those other features because of a cosmetic mod? Yes! ... Almost. It's up to each person to weigh the pros and cons about what they can and can't live without. Don't knock someone else for creating a different grocery list than your own. Immature to the max. Let's just relax. |

why someone would buy a brz over a wrx I will never understand.
If your heart really is in the RWD segment, get the FR-S. |

Why not?
Base FR-S for those that want a more bare bones car without all the fancy stuff and the added weight that comes with the fanciness. BRZ "Extra Fancy Edition" w/Leather for the people that want all the creature comforts and fanciness of a luxury sports coupe but don't want to shell out the cashish for a BMW. lol I want to know who opted to pay the extra 50~80 bux for the scion sticker on the rear bumper. lol Then again, I did pay an extra 220 for my special fancy whiteout. |

Leather will just be ruined within years. Im happy with the FRS' seats, I know that it won't fade or tear. With the extra money save, you can enhance the appearance of the car.
