Driven a AP1 myself and I admit it's amazingly fun to drive car the practicality won me over on the Twins and don't care for the convertible.

Despite all the valid points about both cars merits, which we have all discussed at length (and why not, its fun). But the one thing that makes me want to take the S2000 over my BRZ is that it is more fun (even if only a little bit) to drive and track and AX with.

My Cayman and Boxster were very capable and fun on the track/AX. But sometimes the BRZ was a more rewarding/engaging/FUNNN car to drive.

And, the S2000 was a car that I enjoyed driving more than my past BRZ(s).

I just wish Honda made a proper S2000 hardtop (nonremovable). That would have been perfect to me.

I have scoured the internet for comparison videos of the two cars in a race.. on the track, around a bend... in every video (with the exception of savageese who drived a superchared FRS to stock S2k).. the s2k wins in the end.

Please show me a legit video that shows other ways.. stock for stock or close to. I honestly want to see one.

I have test drove 1 s2k and will this wkend. I currently own a 2013 FRS with stage 2 header+tune. About ready to swap.

Lets have your favorite s2000 chased by me in an equally modified BRZ.

This is super old, but yeah.

Wife and I own 2 S2000s, and 2 86s. The S2000 will walk all over the 86 in any measure other than storage capacity and cabin quietness. That extra 40hp to the wheels, combined with a better balanced front/rear weight ratio, actual wishbone suspension, and quicker steering rack put it out front handily. That said, we are giving up the S2000s and enjoying the 86s more...partly because the latter are both boosted while the former are not, but also because we've accepted the convertible life is not for us, and the practicality of the 86s suits our needs better. YMMV.

I for searching S2000's on the market every evening..
have come across this train of thoughts as well.
glad to know that I am not the only one debating S2000 vs FRS..
always in the end.. sticking with FRS for hoping "newer car reliability" and most importantly the cabin space and trunk space I have available in the twins..

but that s2000 though... suspensions..engine.. design.. i think almost everything else is superior than the twins..

As soon as I can afford a winter vehicle/SUV.. this debate might one day win me over and I see myself trading in the FRS for a s2000...

I wouldn't blame you, especially if you didn't have aspirations of boosting the 86. They are immensely fun cars and we are having a hard time letting them go. LOL

And Mike's video is an excellent comparison, but I would argue swapping drivers might change the outcome. Those parts about superior aero giving the 86 more confidence in this turn or that turn could easily be replaced with superior intestinal fortitude.

This brings up another key point we have personally dealt with owning both - There is no way around the fact that the S2000 is a decade or more older. Sensors, connectors, wiring, all start getting brittle and causing problems that are hard to track down. I'm over it. LOL

that feedback coming from a person owning both vehicles,
that is assuring to hear that I stuck with FRS..makes me a little less sad haha

That was another factor as well. even if I pick up a SUV or daily driver.
I had to factor in in my budget of doing all the mtce items that would be required or as a preventative measures to bring it up to the reliability that I would need doing all these road trips that I have been doing with the FRS.

I think something being overlooked here is that I have over 200k miles of seat time in a s2000, and over 100k miles in a BRZ/FRS...

You are not crazy for having this thought. Not one bit. I have owned 3 BRZs all at different levels of power, and used for different purposes. But only one BRZ was ever a true DD. The other two were occasional DD, AX/track toys. But i got a taste of an S2000 on the track just one time. And numbers aside, i fell in love with the car. I do not own any BRZs now, (i still very much support the community, especially my local guys) but i have an '06 S2000 that is my toy car.

I can't speak for making it a daily. But if i didnt have kids, yep... i would have no problem DD an S2000 for a bit. I would say that "stock for stock", the BRZ may be slightly more fun/comfortable on the street to drive. But on any kind of track/AX the S2000 is superior(more fun too) and in its element.

I dont know what your primary vehicle needs/wants are, however I can tell you that the BRZs only real advantage over the S2000 is the extra space and the hardtop. If you are just a street driver, then the BRZ makes more sense if you are on the fence. But if you have any desire or interest in track time the S2k is superior in every way. Yes, even reliability. Of course I dont give a damn about warranties, so take that for what its worth.

I could go on for paragraphs on the thoughts between these cars. So two quick things:

1. No, your not alone in your thoughts. In fact many others are stuck with making this same decision. But there isnt a wrong choice, just a more right one.

2. The BRZ doesnt understeer at all, till you drive an S2k. Then the BRZ is an understeering pig. Its true. And once you feel it, you can't un-feel it. One of those ignorance is bliss things.

Good luck with your decision.
