Tinted Tailights

Tinted the taillights today, I think I went a little over board but it looks much better on the Asphalt IMO. The light comes through just fine, but I might go back and redo it a little lighter.

I am going to do this, so before I do can you tell me why you want to redo it? Too dark?
Will you go lighter, or off completely?

looks alright, but dont get upset when someone rear ends you. i find it very difficult to see tinted tail lights especially when the sun is directly in my eyes or on the lights. never liked driving behind people that had their tail lights tinted.

I think I was just a bit heavy handed with the spray, I would take it all off and redo it a bit lighter, but I am undecided as of right now.

Edit: I guess I put this in the cosmetic maintenance thread by mistake instead of modification, can a mod move this for me?

I'm undecided. My brother tells me to leave it as is.

Quick q, how much should a shop charge to do this? I'd go with something quite a bit lighter though, blackout is dangerous esp. if you're driving at night in front of an old person in a caddy :/

It's not often that I quote myself but........ I went to go to work this morning and I tested out the lights to see the output in the dark and then again in the bright sun of afternoon when I got home and decided that I had to redo them, but I didn't want to completely have to redo them so I came up with a plan.

I took some 600 grit sand paper and wet sanded most of the tint off but just in the brake light area as I actually like the darkness for the turn signal, makes it look gold when it flashes haha. After I took down most of the tint, I took some 1000 grit paper and resanded the whole taillight. I then grabbed the tint and sprayed a night heavy layer on it (enough to dry to a gloss but not enough to run). I cured it in the sun for 20 minutes or so then hit it with the 1000 grit again lightly just to take off any light impurities and then hit it with two good coats of clear.

The difference is pretty amazing. With the lights off, you don't notice that I did much of anything (which is good because I liked it dark) but the light output from just having the lights on and then the brake lights was around 300% better on the eye ball meter while maintaining the sweet goldish turn signal. I'll take a video later when it gets a little darker out, and then again tomorrow during the day if I can. Right now the clouds and light are just terrible for everything!

I drive to work every morning before first light so I don't want to do anything to compromise the output of my reverse lights, I actually use them to see!
