I began hearing the audible rattle from the shifter approximately three weeks ago at 4500 miles. Took it in and sure enough they ordered the part. I took my FRS today to get the shifter swapped out. After having the shifter assembly swapped out the condition of the rattle worsened. After speaking with the Master Tech at the dealership I took it to, he stated he had to record a sound clip and send it to the regional engineer. As of right now, I'm just playing the waiting game. The engineer will probably be down to check the car tomorrow to examine the car. This is the only solution out their for this problem at this time. Will let you guys know what I hear from the engineer and the tech tomorrow.

Make sure they are ordering the part number from the TSB and NOT the part by the VIN

They ordered the part number from the TSB.. I've had so many issues with this car that its ridiculous. I've had the rear deck popping, idle issues, shifter rattle and the list goes on and on. I love the car that's why I don't want to get rid of it. I've had since January 2013 but with all the trips and stays at the dealership equals about a month and a half already. Hopefully I get good news tomorrow.
Thx for the heads up

Update: had the TSB done regarding the Audible Shifter noise. Field engineer came out and installed. Not to sure if he should be an engineer or not due to him cutting the shifter instead of removing it the proper way. Anyways had it replaced and got the car have two days later. Well it reduced the noise at first but I went back to dealer to advice them the noise is still their. Dealers service manager stated that he could no longer help me as the field technician installed the part and stated after still hearing the noise "that it was normal." I contacted scion corp following my dispute with the manager. Scion rep advices me that theirs nothing they can do. I advices them the noise is louder than the first time I took it in for. I'm currently in the process of going through Settlement program as they have denied to fix my car. Another reason I'm going through the settlement program is for the rear deck popping. Scion attempted to fix it three times and failed. Will see what happens. Not to sure why theirs a TSB when the FET stated the noise was normal even after he replaced the shifter assembly. :/

Bought my vehicle in January of this year and has been at the dealer well over 35 days for repairs or shall I say attempt to repair tsb's. I might as well go back to my reliable Honda instead of this.

My car makes a rattle as well, but the noise happens while I'm crushing down the highway at about 3K in 5th or 6th gear. As soon as I push on the accelerator the sound speeds up then immediately stops. If I let off the throttle again it'll reappear.

Curious, are you guys riding with any weight in the back? I noticed shifter rattle in 5th gear when i had ~80 lbs. of weight in the back, but not when the trunk is clear.

Why do I have a feeling that the cause is the reverse lockout? Someone go buy the perrin one and see if it fixes it.

Skip that, just replace the whole shifter with a kartboy shifter/bushings.

I have a kartboy shifter, and have NO rattles.
