TRD intake

Does anyone have any info on a trd intake coming out? i just ordered my frs and im getting the trd exhaust from the factory. im assuming there wont be much in the way of gains from that (optomistically 5 whp and -10lbs). I have seen some good gains on cold air intakes and would like another 10 factory warrantied HP. I know trd came out with one for the TC so id assume one for the frs would be on the way eventually.

The TRD box is being featured on the Pro/Celebrity race that toyota is having. If you do a google search you'll come up with plenty of hits.

I am also interested in the TRD box because it looks to be about twice as big as the stock airbox, also it looks badass. Expect it to cost an arm and a leg though.

I'm sure it will cost a bit, im willing to pay up for factory HP as opposed to the injen which will void the warranty, im just worried since it is in fact factory warrantied that they will hold back and not get as good of gains as they could. Definetly will come in handy down the line when the supercharger becomes available tho.

Mine is on order also, but I ordered it with the TRD filter. Subaru engines are known for having strong intakes stock, so I just went with a drop in filter, like many on this board have.

Why does the Injen intake void the warranty?

Yeah intake shouldn't void warranty unless they can prove it caused the issue. I have the TRD exhaust and its nice but if you plan to do anything later on you will have to get a custom mid pipe done bc the TRD one is less than 2.5", the rest is 2.5". Enjoy your new FR-S!

Stay away from overpriced TRD components like their intake and catback unless you can get some kind of killer discount. Much better options out there.

In California, we need ARB approved intakes. TRD would be ARB approved if sold by the dealer in California. I believe AEM is ARB approved as well, not sure. For my MINI S, I went with a DINAN CAI that was ARB approved. For Californians, it one less thing to worry about when it comes time for your emissions test.

Id say the trd parts are worth it until your warranty runs out. granted they have to prove the part caused the problem, but if your engine goes and you have an intake on there you can be damn sure theyll give it a go. i know with the injen its been dynod at +15 whp. Im hoping that the trd unit would be good for 10. @ Jacob how much HP is the TRD exhaust worht? im hoping 5 HP and 10 lbs lighter than stock

I think it may be fun to start a betting pool of how the TRD intake will fare in the dollar-per-hp-gained contest!

I'll put down $20 that it is worse than the Air Raid!

Ill bet that it will run about ~$300.00 with about a 6~8 hp gain.

Nahh 300 is too low lol

Their exhaust is an axle back and its 1100

I'm betting it will be around $450USD but your performance guess sounds about right.

The only way to see great gains with an intake is to get an aftermarket tune. Otherwise, your gonna see your MAF Fuel Trims go all over the place. Perrin's Intake seems to be the Optimal Intake in the market without needing a tune.

Thats what im afraid of. I honestly see it ending up around 400 bucks and 5 whp. Honestly if that ends up being the case ill just go Injen and get it tuned. Im thinking with the Injen, trd exhaust and tune 25 whp would seem reasonable.
