Headlight Restore kit
First time I've ever used a headlight restore kit and I like it as it gave me good results.
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00429NKWK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailp age_o02_s00"]Sylvania 46135387715SYLVANIA Headlight Restoration Kit[/ame] Reason why I chose this one was because people on other forums recommend it, it lasts a year or more and most importantly, came with the UV Clear Coat. Directions were easy to follow, I've never done this sort of thing before. My headlights weren't yellow or foggy but were in the process of that because my aftermarket headlight's UV Coat was peeling. Just follow the steps of Prep, Sanding, Polishing, and Clear. Will try to report back when I have to redo it again and how long it lasts. |

Any ideas on how to apply a new UV coating after doing this?

There's a UV coating liquid in the kit, which is what also leaned me toward it. It's the last step.
Steps are spray prep, wet sand 400, 1000, 2000. Polishing wipe. After those steps I was sort of upset since it still had that white hazy fog you get after you sand but as soon as the clear coat touches it it clears up. Clear coat direction is pretty much dip the supplied paper towel sheet into the clear coat bottle, wipe it on the headlight on a left to right motion working top down. Don't overlap your old wipes and a thick layer of it is recommended. Let it dry for an hour before you touch it and a full 4-6 hours after for it to fully cure. I messed up a bit since I did it outside and it lightly rained after an hour so I have a small smudge but it looks way better than before. |

@YamahaR86
Hmm, did it come with any plastic polishing compound? I'd imagine if you used Meguiar's Plastic-X or their headlight compound it would have cleared up the haziness before you did the clear coat phase. |

Though they did say after you'll still get the white haze it's perfectly normal. It didn't clear up until I applied the clear coat. |

Plastic Yeah. It'll be hard to find glass headlights nowadays because they're more expensive and heavier.

And illegal, as most governments are trying to make a pedestrian strike more survivable for the pedestrian. They believe broken headlight glass is dangerous to pedestrians.

My spyder headlights are doing the same thing I was thinking about having a shop do them and clear coat them. But I guess I'll try one of these kits first. Thanks.

Sounds like a good alternative to 3m and Megs though I'm curious how long it will last.

Great video about this, and the different ways to go about it, with slightly more in-depth step by step:

Yup that's exactly the reason why, plastic doesn't shatter out and become shrapnel and also don't become a clean up issue in a crash causing tire blowouts in the future. Also plastic is way easier and cheaper to manufacture and mold into an aerodynamic body piece. The fog lights however are a small easy to mass produce glass enclosure on our cars.

Update on this? I've had my spec d lights for maybe 6 months, and it's starting to peel around the corners.
