New FR-S Owner! A few questions, eager to learn

there was a post from moto about how temperamental our transmission is .. partly due to the triple cone design and to produce a sports car shifter makes a bit unruly when it isn't running at optimal temperatures ..
on that note i'd like to say that the transmission seems to lock you out of certain gears unless double clutching/tight RPM ranges on the given gear and speeds

Sorry this is my first manual, but based on this I assume you mean that I am shifting too early (RPMs too low)?

no .. even when I am shifting in the correct rpm range the transmission can lock me out
some people have been saying replacing the transmission oil has helped alleviate this .. i Think it has helped me .. or maybe its just in my head.
double clutching seems to do the best

i've actually been repeatedly pressing and releasing the clutch while i wait for the car to warm up when i first start the car .. i don't know if it helps but i think i've seen the transmission lock me out less then - mind you i'm no mechanic or even car tech savy but i can't imagine any real harm in doing this and i'm hoping this gets the fluids running?

hmmmm........ I reckon that the friction from the clutch, being engaged and disengaged, might generate a little heat, but I doubt it's significant.

However, your technique would definitely get the ol throw out bearing warmed up .....

i ran out of things to do while the car warmed up .. so i started doing this with that same school of thought haha

Yeah, there's not much that's going to significantly raise your transmission fluid temperature other than driving it. Take it easy when it's cold. The clutch hydraulics run on brake fluid, anyways.

Transmission is really sensitive to rev matching not only the clutch engagement but the synchros, double clutching helps ease things together when cold but is not foolproof.

Fun little quirks of cheap sports cars.

Well, back in the day, during the winter, some folks would put a light bulb under the hood and a blanket over the hood ..... to keep the engine warmer ......

The folks up north sometimes use a block heater and plug their vehicles in during cold weather.

Maybe we need a ....... transmission heater .....

Like a radiant heater.

Yep, install that puppy on the floor/ground where the transmission would come to rest over it. Plug it in and put a timer on it ..... to turn it on 30 minutes before you leave home.
