After an hour or two of researching on the new "ZA1JA01C" code, I decided to go to my dealership to check the ECU calibration version on my FRS. Until today, I was worried about pushing my car above 5.2k RPM, but now I can push my car without any worries down the road (knock on wood).

Here's a picture of a printout that my dealership gave me:

As you can see, my FRS has the newest ECU calibration version installed. My service advisor was a very nice guy and the whole process took no longer than 10 minutes.

additional info:
Country: USA
Mfg date: April, 2013

If you are worried about your current ECU calibration version, I'd say go to your dealership and have them show/print out a copy of the ECU calibration version installed on your car. This way, you won't have to worry about it while driving your FRS "spiritedly".

Hope this helps a few of you out there.
Cheers.

If you buy a ELM327 OBDII to bluetooth adapter on ebay for $10 and download the torque app for droid, you can read it out.

I did it today and my Cal ID is:ZA1J700C

I also emailed my Subaru dealer maintenance manager today to ask about the latest ECU upgrade and I referred to the Toyota TSB shown a few pages back.
However they probably wont respond tomorrow since I think they are underwater (Longmont, CO) ...

I asked the same guy if adding aftermarket parts was an issue.
Here is the exact text of his answer:

"As far as aftermarket upgrades are concerned, any modification will void the warranty for that particular system. If something fails and can be contributed to the specific upgrade/modification will be voided. It does not blanket void the warranty on the entire vehicle. "

How did you do this? I've got the adapter and Torque but can't figure out how to pull the CalID without having a DTC/Freeze Frame Data.

Thanks for the post, although I would have somewhat expected a newer car to have the most recent update. I might expect mine to be out of date since I bought it August 2012. I think that I might request mine at my next service. Even more likely is that my VIN falls within the suspect range.
