BRZ/FR-S Used Resale Value / Depreciation

I think these cars are doing reasonably well from a resale standpoint considering there are some quality (fit/finish/reliability) issues. I'm seeing pricing all over the map right now which is good and bad. As someone said above this is a niche market car of limited supply which hurts short term but we will reap huge benefits from later. Particularly if this car only has like a 5 year run. That would be ideal. Scion is not quite Toyota so I wouldn't expect them to have that kind of resale. Having said that I'm not very concerned with what I've seen thus far. Nothing has dropped off a cliff. I think these cars have a POSSIBILITY to be sought after someday. Especially the least molested ones IMO. We'll see.

It's kind of amusing that someone who is willing to take the hit on three cars per year would be complaining about depreciation.
Again, I'm well aware that buying new necessitates additional depreciation, but if I sold this car for 19k I'd be taking more of a loss on it than the last 6 cars I've owned combined. The last two vehicles sold for what I paid for them. I'm not throwing around as much money as you may think.

I still expected the car to hold value better than this - as a comparison (and maybe I'm wrong as I don't know them as well) I don't believe a 2013 WRX has lost 7k value.

Depends on where you are. I went to NY a couple months ago and I saw base model FR-S' used and new for cheap 18 used 23 new and I wanted it so badly. I came back home to north Florida where they are 21-23 used and 26 new...

I agree - at least one comfort is that up around me you have to look a ways to find them as cheap as my friend did.

Dealer by me had a sale on a used FR-S with the touch screen for 21k, but it had 19k miles. It was about to be scrapped too. Sadly, it was an auto but it had everything else I wanted including whiteout :p

It isn't a Camry, Accord, or Prius, it's a sports car.

Compared to all brands it's still landing somewhere in the middle, we're not talking about Jag or BMW levels of depreciation even at the numbers you quoted.

Relax, if you were going to be so concerned about resale why did you buy new in the first place?

well that's pretty obvious... right?

why would someone in new york be willing to pay full sticker for a RWD car when they have winter for 5 months a year

I've seen quite a few in Florida for $18k. If I were buying one right now, I wouldn't pay more than that...
