I have a feeling the mark up will be absurd, the main reason I didn't buy my car as a BRZ in 2013 or 14 was literally because dealers in my area were marking up all the way to 2014. This will be especially so as toyota is involved and the pure price BS doesn't exist anymore.

Being a previous Supra TT owner I can say that I would never get the new one. They are just using the name to market the car. When the TT came out in 1993, it would rival Corvettes and Vipers. This new rendition is nowhere near what the MKIV was. Just my two cents.

It weird because the Supra was pretty much always a grand tourer. This is turning it into a purer sports car.

As to being a Corvette or Viper rival, it's more that both of those cars have moved away from the brawlers they once were - they now compete with (and often beat) supercars. That's never what the Supra was about, so that comparison is a non-issue.

Pure price didn't mean list price. The Scion dealers could mark up as much as they wanted. It just meant that whatever the car was marked as was what you paid. No reductions, no haggling that was the price. If they marked it up $5K and advertised it at that price then that was the "pure price". At least with Toyota you can attempt to get a lower price than what they marked it up.

Never understood this attitude.

If you don’t like the new car then ok... but the whole “it used to be XYZ” is such a silly way to evaluate something. It’s 2019, the old supra is like 30 years old. What did you want - the same old car with LED headlights?

Just saying man - nothing personal here.

I actually go to take advantage of the pure price model from scion. they were doing a $1000 off promotion for recent college grads (36 months). i was actually 35 months out from my graduation and got $1000 off.

The Supra will be a low volume car, for example 300 units allocated to all of Canada for the first MY.
The 86/BRZ will see a complete redesign and in the meantime Supra will help establish Toyota as a performance capable brand with an affordable and excellent $30K option for the masses. Maybe not for the mainstream, but I think enthusiasts will continue to demand gas-only engines for some years to come.
Toyota is firmly entrenched in hybrid and plug-in hybrid tech and they are world leaders at that.

Well, to be fair they could mark it down as well. I did see cars (not FR-S of course) marked below sticker. If advertised though they had to sell all similarly configured cars at that price.

This is true. They would only have to sell similar cars at that price if they advertised it as such. Pure price rules were very specific that the price shown for a car was for that car and that car only.
