Rumors are Audi R4 will be a FR-S competitor

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/18/r...-below-the-tt/

"Rumors have floating around for years that Audi has been planning to develop a small entry-level, mid-engine sports car, and Auto Motor und Sport is now claiming the so-called R4 will debut in 2013. The R4 is expected to be based on Audi's second e-tron concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show last January although it will use internal combustion power instead of the electric drive of the concept.

The R4 is expected to weigh in at a comparatively modest 2,500 pounds and offer a choice of gas or diesel inline-four engines. Gasoline propulsion would come from a 180 horsepower 1.4-liter TSI unit while the high-mileage option would be the 170 horsepower version of the 2.0-liter TDI used in the TT and the Golf GTD. The R4 is also expected to be priced well below the TT with a base of about €22,000 (about $27,000)."

Sleeprz posted this info earlier in the mustang thread but it deserves to be here in the other vehicles section of the forum.

If the FR-S does indeed get postponed until 2013 and gets saddled with some hybrid nonsense then this is my back up choice for a DD. 2500lbs, Mid engined, RWD, and a 180hp 1.4l turbo sounds very tasty.

***when I say FR-S competitor I'm assuming the turbo G Sport FR-S or top of the line model would cost around $27,000 also

knowing Audi ..it will under perform, but they are cars that make you feel good in a different way.

If ft86 is postponed..I'll go for the "next" GTR or BMW "M1".

yeah the only thing I don't like about that is $27,000. I know its an Audi and all, but the specs don't look like a 27,000 $ car to me.

Like the design and info... but 2 thing bugs me.

1. RWD or AWD? If they gonna do AWD (I haven't see FR Audi for long time), I gonna wait for Subie Coupe ver and willing to spent extra $$$ for it. Get more Power and performance out of Subie than this Audi R4 ever will (in stock).
2. Audi car > $27k. Even cheapest Audi current have is... Audi A3 w $27,300-ish without any options (correct me if I'm wrong on that price tag, that's just off my memory). Some how I see R4 as lil brother of TT & TT is $38k-ish. It's no way they gonna drop $11k lower than TT for R4.

If it starts at $23-25, is RWD, and has that 5-cylinder from the new TT-RS sign me up.

audi actually realeased the A1 in Germany with a 1,4 TFSI 90 kw as a entry engine with 6 Speed or S tronic starting at 19.900 € but FF maybe they´re going to release a S version also sportback http://static.pagenstecher.de/upload...portback-8.jpg (just a 2008 concept) - would be interesting!

Yeah, Euro & Asia get all the good car, while US get screwed.

You said €19.900... yeah if you convert it to US it's $24,600... & I highly doubt it gonna keep it around that price. They gonna raise it to $26k~$28k, just cuz it's Audi.
