Window weld motor mounts (poor man's solid mounts)

Has anyone ever tried this?

I know, it looks ghetto. But people have done it and it's held up for years. People report it being easier, and cheaper to put in than motor mount inserts. I don't want extra NVH though, so I dunno if this is for me. But might be worth trying for less than $15.

Ideally, I would get the JDM STI mounts for the engine and tranny. But that's $700 that I'm not ready to drop quite yet.

Are there any voids in the factory mounts?

Yeah, I've done it before. It will add NVH, or it did on the car I did it on. Make sure you put in a layer & let it dry, then do the next layer and let it dry. Repeat until you have the voids filled in. Otherwise the center will never dry.

I did this once in a pinch when I broke a passenger side motor mount on an RSX and there was a national backorder and could not get a replacement. The motor mount dropped on the frame, and it was fluid filled but ruptured.

It worked for the week I was going to leave it on, so I drove it for another 3 years before it got stolen lol

It does work, but I wouldn't go making a motor mount from scratch when there are aftermarket alternatives available

Yeah, but, new motor mounts are a LOT of money. If I can smear this stuff into my new engine mounts to stiffen things up for a few bucks, with no drawbacks, I may just try this.

If my car is ever done I might try and pack the tranny mount. Just because. Not like its any cheaper then a whiteline mount though. Ive done it before on cars that didnt have aftermarket mounts.

I have an STI trans mount and waiting on engine mounts before I install it all at once and I have to say......this is not nearly as dumb or "ghetto" as I had expected...

Do it. Post up results.

Some people get pretty ghetto with it but honestly if you have a mount that has empty space in it and all you're doing is packing the empty space than its a viable alternative to expensive mounts for a street car

Heh, I was hoping someone else would have done it already. Or someone will try it now. When I get full exhaust and if I encounter issues, at that point I'll either invest in STI engine + tranny mounts or maybe try the window weld first.

My fear is that a solid mount will transmit too much NVH. But for someone who likes to experiment, why not? You might get what you're looking for and save hundreds in the process.
