As per what Wparsons said, it's EXTREMELY beginner friendly. While I haven't attended the class in person, I've attended OTA run events and they run a bloody tight and well oiled machine.

I was also bitterly disappointed last year when I couldn't attend due to rule changes about roll bars for convertibles but that just shows to tell you how badly I wanted to go.

Are DOT motorcycle helmets allowed for the OTA school? Or does it have to be a Sports Automotive snell rated helmet?

All you need is a safe car and desire to learn!
Just to clarify, the GP School is June 24th,right? On the website, it says its May 13th.

Which website please? PM me a link.

From OTA's forum, the GP track school is indeed on June 24th ($350 for early bird, $380 after).

@wparsons - please confirm? The website does say GP course on the May 13th date but I'm 99% sure its supposed to be DDT and NOT GP.

Yeah, the description on msreg (and time-attack.ca since it was copied there) is wrong for the May 13th school.

May 13th is the DDT and requires zero experience.

June 24th is the GP track and ideally you'll have at least one previous lapping day or school under your belt.

Sorry guys, working on it being corrected now!

It's extremely good value given what you're getting (Grand Prix track, full instruction, etc.).
Just confirming those prices are correct! There's also discounts from JRP at the open house, and there will be lots of people around to bench race with.

DOT only, no, but if it carries a Snell M rating you're good to go. I'm about 85% sure that 2005 helmets are still good for this year, but confirming today. If I don't confirm and you're looking for an answer just PM/quote/mention me and I'll remember

Confirmed, 2005 Snell and SFI helmets are good for this year. You only need a Snell SA in a car with a rollcage since it's rated for multiple impacts in a crash (like your head hitting the cage multiple times).

You're looking for M or S or SA rating.

Are you planning on getting a bike or are on one?

This helmet has a M rating which would be good enough for the school and is only $20 more:
https://fortnine.ca/en/hjc-cl-17-helmet

Or this: https://fortnine.ca/en/hjc-cl-17-streamline-helmet

Remember, look at the description and look for Snell M rating at least. DOT doesn't cover it.

A proper helmet is a worthy investment if you're serious about getting on the track. You don't have to spent a ton, usually $200 will net you a pretty decent helmet like the ones I posted links on from.

If you can pay for the $350-$375 for the school, the helmet isn't that much of a stretch and will last you at least 5 years.
