Why do boosted autos get a bad rep

I’ve got an auto, and before boosting a lot of the consensus I saw online was that it’s pointless as the auto is slower, transmission isn’t good etc etc, get a manual if you want to boost. So much so that I almost considered giving up on going that route

I’ve since boosted my car anyway and now don’t understand the bias against it, I don’t see any disadvantages outside of fun driving factor, and if you’re going built motor.

I’m stock motor, stock transmission (just a transmission cooler), I’m making 380nm torque and 340hp at the wheels, at around 11-12PSI. I daily the car and have had the turbo for 6 months. The shifts are still quite quick, and I lose hardly any boost between shifts. The longer gear ratio of my auto means I can still rev the car and not experience too much wheel spin and stay in the powerband longer.

I raced another 86 who was manual and said he made almost the same power (he made 335 wheel). We were close in 2nd but as soon as we both went to 3rd he lost a full car and then by the time he was back in boost I had put 2 cars on him and was pulling away

So yea, if you have an auto and you want to boost don’t be discouraged, I have no regrets and whilst the manual may be faster when you’re NA, I can’t see any reason why the auto isn’t faster boosted UNTIL you begin going built motor and pushing power the auto trans can’t handle like a manual with upgraded clutch can

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the auto is bad for boost because it's slower. People who add forced induction to their cars typically just want to row gears. Nothing wrong with auto, people who are prejudiced just haven't grown up yet.

keeping in-boost is the reason many like boosted auto's.

just goes to show that not everyone's goals are the same.

in a similar tone, i've always changed my vehicles sound systems, but i avoid car audio speakers like the plague.

Because the MT guys are jealous the ATs are faster and more durable when paired with big boost.

Just boosted my 17 AT with the HKS Kit - I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Shifting is super fast, darts out of corners and is wicked fast in a straight line. Its amazing really.

I feel like there aren’t as many people that post about the auto, at least that was in my experience from what I came across.
I kept the car NA and researched on the side for about 3 years before boosting

Just picked up a SSP stage 2+ valvebody and SSP stage 1 clutch for a steal and am extremely excited to see how the car reacts
- not that the shifts are slow with the trans cooler but ive heard very good things
