TWM Front Carrier Bushing... - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

So I've seen the DIY on installing the Rear shift bushings (probably going with the Perrin) but have no idea what's involved with installing the front carrier bushing. Is this a straight forward as the rear shift bushing install? Not sure if I should order these bushings as well as I'm not 100% confident I'd be able to get them installed.

Either way, still not even sure which short-throw to go with, as the Kartboy is looking pretty nice as well (and it comes with the rear bushing)

Anyone have any input? I should mention I've NEVER done anything even remotely similar to shifter/bushing installs, but I've finally got a nice car to wrench on, and I'm ready to dive in head first... Just need to pick up some ramps/jack stands and a torque wrench or two

I can see this hobby getting MIGHTY expensive in a hurry! Damn it's a lot of fun though!!

No whiteline is the way to go.. TWM mehhh.... we know them for a while and really not a fan of that compagny!

I see, yeah was thinking Perrin for the rear bushing, and will check out Whiteline for the rest. I haven't seen any DIY for the front carrier bushings, does Whiteline make those? Easy-ish to install?

Would I be wise to invest in the Karyboy shifter instead ya think? They seem to get a lot more positive feedback here and elsewhere...

Bringing this thread back. Has anyone installed TWM front carrier bushings? As far as I have found, they are only people making these. It is the second item on this page:

Install doesn't look much more difficult than doing the short shifter, and wanted to try these before going to a short shifter and feel the progression.

Other manufacturers make the rear shifter bushing.

Has no one done this at all? Those seem to clean up the movement the shifter has, does it not?

Kartboy was supposed to be working on these bushings also. At least that's what they told me a couple of months ago when I bought my shifter. I was waiting because I know they'll be cheaper than TWM's. But I don't see anything on their website. Really need these to round out the whole shifter upgrade(shifter, rear bushing, trans bushing, MTEC springs).

yeah same here, ive got mtec sitting on the shelf. but these would really finish up the whole shifter for me too. I guess im just gonna get them for the hell of it.

I had twm bushings on my tc awhile back and I didn't have any problems with quality.

you would have to drop the trans unit to be able to separate it from the shifting collar.
not worth it.

short shifter alone will be solid & "machine feel" like enough.

It is possible to install without moving the Trans. There's 2 pins that mount the he carrier, and you just have to remove those and lift the carrier to change inserts. All possible with 4 jack stands on the floor.

I'd love an idea of where these actually install on the car. Below the shifter and on top of the transmission?

The front of the shifter is attached to the tranny, the back is attached to the body at the back of the tunnel. This bushing is the attachment point at the back of the tunnel.

Guys, the kartboy part is less than half the price of this one and is exactly the same part.

Or, I've got a spare after taking part in a couple group buys that included these.

I ordered them and put them on. Pretty simple, just jack car up and get under it.

Pretty much only a few inches forward from where the mtec springs go in.
