I used WD-40 as well, just the regular one though, sprayed until it started to drip and banged on the panel very lightly (probably don't even have to if you didn't pry it open a little with a flat head screwdriver since there was enough room to spray in anyways).

Maybe your noise is different from what we have? Does it sound like the video posted on the first post? Does it happen at any speed on any type of road? I also had this noise months after I got rid of the noise that's talked about in this thread. And this noise only happened when the car flexes like when going over a speed bump in an angle.

Guys I thought it was all these issues too but I made a big mistake, DO NOT REPEAT!

Before you think of removing anything is needed it's probably the rear seat not properly locked in place, this happens it takes a few times to get it right. I thought the seat lock wasn't an issue and went to the dealership and the amateurs did the following:

1. Scratched the plastic removing the side air bad panels (in the back), it's misaligned forever, it can't be fixed, the guys who work there are grunts lol (they work with the mindset, "Who cares, not mine!")
2. Left oil stains
3. Scratched the side panels with a screwdriver removing the plugs on the rear deck
4. Added insulation between the rear deck and seat frame panels and scratched the hell out of it
5. AND they used over 20 KM on my car testing it out (after the fix) which is BS lol, since the moment you drive my car you hear the rattle you don't need to drive that long, plus I even drove the car with them for 50 meters to show them the issue (Wietzes Toyota, those guys are a joke, but the girls are hot though)

After testing all week, I found out it was the rear seat lock, not being full locked in place and some sort rubbing against plastic/metal causing a ticking/tack sound. Please please test the seat out, flapping it down and locking in place a few times multiple times (took me 4 times).

Exactly. I listed down 6 other noises in my first post and what you describe is the #3 there.

My Toyota dealer took the car in and worked on it. So far it seems to have fixed the noise.

For my car it was the attachments for the trunk cross bar where it meets the C pillars. As they say they 'strengthened' them whatever that means. I think they just changed bolts and tightened them down.

I noticed this noise when I had my seats down on a 1 hour road trip. Think I'm going to try the quick and easy fix today and see if it continues. Definitely sounds like it is where those two plates are.

Will adding sway bars or strut tower bars help relieve this popping issue?

After taking my car for a wash today and applying WD 40 silicon spray, I can happily say the tapping/clicking noise is gone. I sprayed both spots real well and wiped them down. I used the end of a hammer and pushed down on the welds with a little pressure, but not a lot. I did not pry them open with a screwdriver either. There was no need. I'll continue to monitor but that fix did the trick for me.

This has been the only issue (key word is only) that I've had with my car. Finally got it in to my dealership last week when the factory rep. was going to be there. The first thing they did was clean out the WD-40 and the lithium that I had used in an attempt to stop the rattle. They then shot in some kind of special lubricant. When they test drove the car afterwards, it still rattled. They took out the package shelf and test drove it again and it didn't rattle. They applied a foam tape to the top of the metal bar that crosses under the package shelf and that seemed to fix the problem. I picked the car up yesterday and went for a 'test drive' this morning. The rattle is gone.

Could you please take a few pictures of the rear deck with the foam installed as I am also experiencing the same noise and have tried numerous types of foam and such to quiet the noise.
And do you know what kind of foam they used? Does it leave a adhesive residue on the cars metal frame?
THANKS!

I went to my local dealer (not where I purchased the car) and waited 2 hours and they ended up not doing any work besides washing my car (they wash your car w/ every service) b/c they said it's not a same day repair but they're gonna fix that and my auto-off headlight feature (for free, normally a $35 charge). They said the appointment should not have been scheduled by their employee b/c he/she should have known not to schedule this for a same day fix. I showed them TSB 12-140-12 but they said they might not use it b/c they only use resources at their disposal. I probably didn't describe it well, I told them it was a Subaru article I found when I should have said it was a Technical Service Bulletin straight from Subaru.

I'll have to leave my car with them Monday & Tuesday but hopefully they'll fix this popping issue first try. I'll report here on what they do to fix it.
