OFT Stage 1, Newb Questions

Just installed a stage one OFT for 93octane fuel. I may be noticing more engine noise, not intake noise, badddd engine noise. Or maybe I'm just listening to it more carefully since I've installed a tune. Is this tune safe? My LTFT is around - 7%, isn't that a little low? I've got an Injen cold air intake that claims to be tuned and has a little tube bypassing the MAF sensor, could that be messing up my fuel trim? Also, I noticed on the data log on WOT the parameter only reads 97% and there's about 1/8in of dead spot at the beginning of the pedal, is there a fix for that? Already went through ignition cycles to hopefully re-learn it, but to no avail. This is my first time tuning and I have no idea what to look for.

Dead pedal will gone soon, let the ecu learn parameters.
Noise can be valvetrain

You're hearing the more aggressive valve timing from 3-5k RPM.

-7% at idle is nothing to worry about. But check LTFT after a couple hundred miles when ECU has learned the new trims. It sounds like you haven't put that many miles on so what's your total fuel trims (LTFT + STFT) at idle and at 2500 RPM? At stage 1 at idle mine were around -5 or -6, less negative at 2500 RPM

The extra noise I heard at stage 1 seemed to be in the torque valley RPMs. I figured the tune was changing the cam timing to compensate for the torque hole. I'm not sure though, I have no way to verify. But when you tune, sounds change. When you have an intake, you hear the new sounds louder. Don't sweat it.

At stage 2, there's a whole different set of noises to fret over!

Yup, that's normal. I believe it has to do with the drive by wire. The dead spot will go away after a 100km (60miles) or so.

Use this procedure to get rid of the dead spot after re-tuning. Always works for me.

As for negative fuel trims, try posting a data log after a few hundred miles.

Less than 100% throttle at WOT is completely normal for these cars.

You need to read some of the OFT tips and tricks posts. All will become clear .

I just tuned my car with the OFT to stage 1. I have a perrin CAI, and a perrin catback. I noticed what sounded like a terrible engine noise right around 4000 RPM. It sounded bad like the original poster said. I thought it was related to the intake perhaps. Flashed back to stock and it is gone. So this raspy, almost grinding loud noise is normal??? Will the stock airbox continue to produce this sound if I put it back on?

It's normal and not related to your intake. It is caused by aggressive VVT tuning to reduce torque dip.

Noise is still there with stage 2. Can confirm. Just not as loud.
