There's no paint where they worked on mine, it's bare metal. And you'll never see it where its located. Even if you did the marks are so small, they're hardly noticeable. I'll take this over that dang popcorn machine in my backseat any day.

A shot of WD-40 where the TSB says took care of my clicking. Any idea how long this will last, vs. the suggested spray grease?

This popping noise is killllling me. I sprayed wd40 tonight ill see what's up in the morning but I'm not confident..

Sucks having a brand new car with 1500 miles that rattles around in the shifter and the rear deck, not to mention sounding like a damn colony of crickets. Sigh...

I sprayed WD-40 over 10 months ago and never had to spray again.

Hit it with wd40 last night and to my surprise, rattle is gone for now. Hope it holds up.

So glad I found this forum. I've had my FR-S since Aug 2012. The popping in the rear deck started almost immediately. I've taken in to the dealer numerous times only to be told "we can't hear it". Today, I printed out the BRZ TSB for rear deck noise. My problem was noise #2. Happy to say my car is pop free. Now onto the door rattle caused by the speakers vibrating the window switches.

So now instead of one loud occasional pop, I have constant quieter pops. I have slightly cracked and sprayed grease in every weld I see. I'm going to take to the dealer one last time. After that, I'm going the put sound deadener throughout the parcel shelf & trunk.

OK, so I'm fairly certain I have this problem on my car, it's definitely a popping sound below the rear window when driving on smooth roads with no load on the rear suspension. Pulled down the back seat, put it back, and the noise briefly went away but it's back now. Drove again with the back seat down, and it's much more noticable.

The odd thing is the TSB from Subaru claims that they've fixed it for cars with VINs above D*602788. But my VIN is just above that, so I should have a car without this problem, but I guess they haven't fixed it? Anyone else with a VIN above that range getting this problem?

Yes i have that exact problem and mine is after that VIN also. I know my service manager is gonna pull the "well this TSB doesnt apply to you so i cant do anything BS." He did the same thing when i asked him about getting a replacement fuel pump for the cricket issue.

My BRZ just developed this popping noise. Maybe I never heard until today b/c I drive with music on. I always thought it might be the pebbles/rocks hitting the inner rear fenders but nope..it's definitely the trunk. Holy crap it is annoying.

Wd40 solves the problem.

Mine had this rattling all of a sudden around 8000 KM. I am almost at 10,000 KM now and just last week I couldn't take it anymore and stumbled across this thread.

I had some white lithium grease laying around and sprayed that into those two sleeve cavities in the trunk. Since then, no noise! Full of awesomeness again!
