You run Hot Lava, I'm starting to doubt you've ever driven in snow. The snow probably melts as you approach it.

Approaching my second Canadian winter in the 86, I have switched the brake pads to hybrid ones EBC yellowstuff, should I switch back to stock for winter?

I will not be changing these myself so there is some cost too it, but I prefer not to crash so if it's better to switch il get it done.

Spend a little time in an empty parking lot with some fresh powder on it and you'll learn a lot.
Good winter tires and smooth/gentle inputs and you'll be fine. As @Tcoat says, avoid fancy winter wheels, as ice builds up when you're parked and throws your wheels off balance.

You'll be fine and you won't regret getting this car.

Rust 2014 FRS
Lower body is treated and even chips only really get surface rust.

Front fender chip/ding after 230,000kms/6 years winter driven. Little surface rust no spread or bubbling. The lower body from the bottom of the windows down is very rust resistant.

Can hardly see it on the front fender

Roof is a different matter! Careless window scrapping causing small chips resulted in bubbled and spread in a matter of weeks.

Thin paint or unpainted surfaces under the car can be nasty!
Looks bad but just surface really.

Lightly painted tin part of seal (just barely in pic at bottom) almost completely gone.

Properly painted areas still pristine. Can see the still untreated spot on the fender at 7 years of age.

And finally the big one! Oil pan actually rusted through to the point of leaking. I have seen better on cars that sat on their belly in a field for 20 years.

All in all rust is a mixed bag with the lower body and shell being very rust resistant but many of the unpainted or lightly painted mechanical and suspension parts and the roof being susceptible.

Body wise it looks way WAY better than mot pre 2010 or so cars that were driven in the winter and above average for any after that date. Except Mazda. Mazdas rotted out fast right up to 2015!
