Richard Hammond and James May will quit Top Gear

So sad, it was a great show, guess this opens up for other shows to take its place. It's going to be tough.

Sources close to BBC are saying James May and Richard Hammond are about to leave Top Gear after Jeremy Clarkson was fired yesterday.

Shortly after BBC made the big announcement, James May said the trio "came as a package" while Richard Hammond described the current situation as "the end of an era". Now, sources close to the matter are saying both of them will refuse to renew their contracts with the BBC which will come to an end next month. It is believed that Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman is not willing to continue doing the show without main star Jeremy Clarkson.

Jeremy tends to go overboard... went a little too far this time it seems. I watch(ed) Top Gear purely for the presenters and the crazy things they like to do with cars, not for the cars. There's another show called 5th gear... yeah, not the same thing...even with capable race driver hosts. Nothing can replace Top Gear for entertainment value involving cars. However, if I want car review shows or a show focused on presenting information on cars there are four I generally turn to:

5th Gear I think is the result of ex-Top Gear presenter Tiff Nedell (sp?) being pissed at BBC and going off to do his own show.

May, Clarkson and Hammond can go make 6th Gear, maybe?

The final episode of Top Gear aired yesterday. It was just Hammond and May alone in the studio introducing two unaired films. No audience, no news, no SIARPC etc. No theme music even. It was quite somber actually, I almost shed a tear at the end

I had lots of laughs but when it was over I was sad.

Pretty lame send-off for a great show that's been entertaining me for the better part of 10 years.
