Yep, back in our roadster days, when mrs humfrz would start to get overheated, while we were driving top down in the desert, I would crank up the AC and direct the vents towards her face. That would give me another 10 degrees of top down driving ......

Now, didn't she look happy with that plan ......

running the AC eats/ consumes gasoline. As does running the defroster = which uses the compressor , but same kind of effect.

So does driving the car. I certainly agree that maximizing mileage is important if you passed that "next gas 250 miles" sign, but do people really worry about running the AC for mileage reasons normally?

I'm really starting to want a Miata or Fiat. Saw the Fiat parked in town, sexy little car.

I would venture to say, that for those of you who would say "yes", have never driven on a hot day, with a wife that is going through the "change in life" and stays right on the edge of a "hot flash"........

Yes, if you enjoy traveling by car and are looking for a different "driving adventure" ...... I would recommend a roadster.

There is something magical about driving and seeing the "big picture".

It's funny, i've had cars where you turn the AC on and you feel that noticeable dip in power, almost like you gained a passenger in the car. The FRS for whatever reason can't really tell much. Cools pretty decently too though i figure the smaller-than-most cabin helps quite a bit with that.

@ humfrz love the NC! Have you tried an ND yet by chance? Interested to hear your thoughts. As nice as it is i still prefer the NC.

Yep, we really enjoyed our NC. Many miles and smiles .....

I haven't even test driven an ND. I don't think I could get mrs humfrz back into a roadster ...... although she was a good sport, for over 80,000 miles, in our NC.

Besides, with my FR-S, I have a "back seat" that I can toss my granddaughters into, to punish them .....

I can say yes to that. Normally or abnormally, I do both. Gas is gas, dollars and sense , it's all important. I've been known in my old Toyota 4x4 truck, to run the heat on ... while it was 100 degrees out. I did have the vents pointing towards the windows, and the windows were partly down

I don't understand why you ran with the heat ON....??

Back in the day, the only reason we would run with the heat on in the summer was to help cool the car if it was overheating .......

Yeah, to keep it as cool running as I could. I'd usually be hauling something , so every bit helped. I never over heated , never busted a upper/lower radiator hose, and that was random times.... summmer 100-105 degree heat, or winter... etc. , running the 3L V6 engine... from the early 1990s ,not the greatest Toyota V6 engine either

Sorry to bump an old thread, I forgot where exactly but I remember seeing a dyno graph of a mr2 turbo with a/c on and a/c off almost 10 years ago, I forget the exact numbers but IIRC, it dyno’d 160whp, with a/c it was around 130-140. I remember averaging it and it was about 30-40 whp loss from what I saw. I might actually test it when I dyno mine.
