OP opens a thread for well documented changes posted all over the interwebz just to give us a low blow about the "torque dip" and how "bad" it must be for the pre-refreshed models....don't think he'll last long here..
I learned to downshift and upshift at the redline, still haven't been stuck in torque dip land.. |

Respectfully, I don't agree with your assessment. The first time I drove the car, I put my foot in it as I do regularly with all my cars. And the dead spot slapped me in the face. And you can feel the car come back alive at 4500 on my car.

I was searching for a car for my wife. I had been looking at used M3's. Just left a 2011 test drive and was very disappointed. The only thing that car had going for it was the DCT trans and the awesome sound.
I gave up on the search, stopped at the Subaru dealer and bought the car. They didn't even have the car yet. As I knew it would be my wife's car, I wasn't too concerned about what the car would turn out to be. A bit of an impulse buy I suppose. I'm not having buyers remorse. I'm just stating my findings and trying to learn what I can about the car. So as you can see, I didn't know what a BRZ was until I bought one. It appears any negativity about this thread seems to be that no onw has noticed the good things I said about the car. |

"I do enjoy the car. The balance is great. the "turn in" and "set" is about as good as any car I've ever driven. The rear rotation at turn in is just right. I look forward to my next track day. This will be my first track experience with a low hp car. Should be fun in the corners Cheers" See you at the track. |

It’s not a “major” problem but I’d still prefer that it wasn’t there. |

eh well the way most people describe it, to me it sounds like they are eternally stuck in torque dip land so much so that apparently keeping the revs between 5 to 7 K is no longer viable. maybe some folks here are truly stuck in torque dip limbo?? |

Meh, it's a cheap sports coupe with a flat 4 in a niche market that makes more NA power stock than most/all other new cars in its price point.

exactly...what engines are people comparing the FA20 to? To me the most comparable engine is the F20C...but the S2000 was a 30K+ car almost 2 decades ago and it isn't dramatically any faster than a twin...they virtually have the same amount of wheel torque. And in order to fit that engine and have a great balance, the hood had to be long AF, only got 2 seats and a small trunk..the twin's packaging has to be respected..

i've always enjoyed the torque dip, because it provides a very clear difference between 'cruising' and 'gimme dat on-ramp'

It is a 10% drop for a 10th of a second at high acceleration. If that slaps you in the face then you must be very sensitive.

I do need to get more track time with this thing to hopefully make me fall in love (should be able to keep out of the dip there, unless the gearing is really unsuited to the track). The first (and only so far) was a 3 lap start that ended without an engine. |
