need to remove headliner so quick question
what direction do i pull on the a-pillar covers? i dont want to tug the wrong direction and snap the clips.

Take a look in the DIY forums. There is a write up in there for removing the whole interior of the car.

If these cars were Chrysler products all you'd need would be a 1/2" open-end wrench, a 12mm box-end wrench, two pairs of vise-grips, a prybar and a large hammer.
I'd be exactly the same way as OP. I always assume there's a trick. :-)
