Grippier than stock but not fun killing?[Tires]

Hey All,
[asked this on Reddit but wanted your opinions]

Is there a tire that is grippier than the primacies but does not kill all the fun on an NA build? I'm looking for 225 x 45 x 17 on a 17x8 wheel.

Background:
The stock tires scared me driving in canyons but were really fun around town.
I went to 225x17 indy500s, gave me more grip but the rear tires will not budge.

My power mods are UEL + tune.

Probably any 300+ treadwear tire will be where you want. I like the Hankook ventus v2 concept2 all seasons for an all around tire for low power level cars

I would suggest trying GT radial SX2 in 215 or 225 width. At about $80 a tire you can't go wrong with them.

firehawk indy's too much grip?...

stop being a wuss and commit to the gas

I personally always enjoyed dailying on bfg sport comp a/s (their sport comp 2 is a summer) they offered good grip and easy to manipulate. they are inline with the cooper RS3-G1 and i think general AS-05?

i also liked the primacy's for their flingability, *shrugs* its a nice change from the super 200's im normally on

Sounds like you should worry more about fixing the nut behind the wheel than what tire you need.

225 indy 500 is not too much tire

I also have the bfg sport comp 2 in 225 and love them. The grip is just right!

OP, if the stock configuration is doing anything to scare you, you're doing it wrong. More grip will only mask poor habits. First learn not to overdrive the platform. Leave the nannies engaged and practice. Consider any intervention to be a dope slap. VSC is an excellent training aid.

I like the Advan v105s I ran this summer. They were pretty cheap in stock size.

Actually, I've found the BFG gforce comp-2 AS that I have for "winter" to be quite responsive and predictable in both wet and dry. Definitely more grip than stock, but still playful. Pretty heavy though as I recall...

Ill just add to do it in a safe environment.

There are plenty of groups that do skid pad days like Speed SF. If you join the Norcal86 - Bay Area FB you can find more options for drifting and stuff as well to learn at

i run BFG gforce comp-2 AS's year round. i'm quite happy with them, as they offer slightly more grip than stock, and happily offer less noise near, at, or past grip unlike the stock tires.

imo, they are almost as predictable as the stock tires, which was the main thing i loved about the oem tires. the oem tires enhanced the cars attributes. the sport comps do trade some of that feeling for grip, but any grippier tire is going to do that.
