Yeah but are you going to buy the same rims again after you wear out the oem rims?

If they are cheap, and I'm dirt broke. I don't mind buying it off someone who just got their car and swapping out their rims.

According to 86 owners, changing the tires will allow this car to beat lambos around the track

I am one of the newest folks around here, so I'll throw that right out so I don't appear to be talking from years of experience - I know my place - I am an FRS noob.

So, the first thing I looked at is where the OP is from - Cali. These tires are not bad for drivers in that part of the country.

I too liked the stock tires on dry pavement, in warm weather. They were fun to drive on, for sure.

I bought my FRS in November, and here in MD, we start getting Wintery weather shortly after. The Primacy HDs, IMO, leave a lot to be desired when driving in cold and/or wet, and/or snow. Enter Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's. These tires out-perform the HP's on absolutely every front, very substantially, and I believe they cost less than the HP's. The Michelin's grip is way beyond the HP's, and they are barely affected by wet conditions. In snow, they are way better than the HPs - no comparison - but still, they are A/S's, not to be compared with dedicated snows. On the down side, given what I've learned here, some Michelin PS A/S 3 owners are not getting near 45k mileage on them. I need to see what I get out of them.

So, IMO the Michelin's are so superior, they might be the best first choice for any FRS owner, regardless of where they live.

I don't like the primacys :-/
Here in Germany it rains a lot and you have the Autobahn with unlimited parts were you can go a lot faster than US highway speed. And for both those situations they are not my first choice. They are indeed fun for little sliding at low speed but the more narrow the roads get the less time you are using it like that.

I'm going for 225 Continental Sportcontact 5 this summer.

I found a great discount retailer nearby me - lower prices than Sears. I paid $620 mounted, balanced, taxes/fees, out-the-door.

I'll get them again..

I'm getting a set of the primacy for circuit "fun"...for me its all about me having fun, so i'm forgetting about lowering my times on the track and focusing on being the happiest guy with the biggest smile there. "Fun"=sliding, drifting, making noise....you guys know what i mean
The primacy like any other performance tire got their use and place....for me its not public roads, for my driving anyway.

Sometimes I wonder. It seems to me that car manufacturers have a contract to buy tires only from a certain tire vendor.

Your getting those tires because this was pre-arranged by the car/tire companies.

Yes they are contracted but the car companies set the specs not the suppliers. Parts manufacturers have to meet the car companies, specs, price point and demand not the other way around.

I live in Southern Cali. Had to replace my OEM tires and it cost ~$930. Asked what Michelin summer tires they had. Walked out paying ~$500.

Our stock tires are 182 on tire rack. A/S 3's, which I also chose to replace them for maryland driving, are only 142. I don't believe the A/S 3's were out when the car came out, but I'm sure there was something comparable. Here is a list of some of the ratings betweeen these tires.

Primacy vs A/S 3
Price $182 vs $148
Treadwear 240 vs 500
Hydroplaning resistance 7.7 vs 9.0
Wet Traction 7.5 vs 9.1
Dry Traction 8.0 vs 9.2
Steering response 8.1 vs 9.1
Ride comfort 7.6 vs 8.5
noise comfort 7.3 vs 8.1

Primacies have no ratings on their snow/ice abilty because they are summer tires. I was fine with the stock tires when it was dry and warm too, but it's not like that all year. It suprises me they put a summer tire on a car sold in so many different areas, when there are all seasons with specs far better that look basically the same and should last longer.
