Does anyone know a good place away from the city(ies) to star gaze? I see shots of people having a full view of the milky way, etc, and have no idea where to go to see that. I know it has to be away from the city due to city lights, but has anyone ever done this?

This is over-kill, but im talking about something like this.

Atleast i dont see it on a regular basis.

Canyon lake or tortilla flats. They're just east of town. Plus 88 up there can be fun

I just got back from Page yesterday. I rented a car but ran into an 86'er from Seattle.. Anyway, I took this shot at the campground I stayed at on lake Powell. I agree with B.Rice85 on Canyon lake or at least that far out. Flagstaff should do as well..

i believe there are a few sky gazing clubs.. I'd be willing to go on a road trip here.. http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/santan/

or here http://azstateparks.com/Parks/LODU/

EDIT.... I figured what the heck, and booked an overnight at lost dutchmans.. I'll let you know how good it is...
