Careful there. It's hard sometimes to determine sarcasm on the internet.

As for the OP's question, get another car. If you have to come to the internet first to ask what to get, maybe deep down, you don't really want it.

So much hate towards the auto and I'm just here enjoying my paddles.

I have yet to have someone other than some internet keyboard warrior ridicule my purchase of getting an auto vs manual, it's not like I can't drive manual it's more of a choice of convenience. It may be more engaging, but after driving to work for the longest time with a stick in long traffic bouts I got tired of it in a "pedestrian" car.

Exactly never understood the big fuss over it.

I prefer hands free so I went with the auto. It's nice to have the option though whenever i want to use manual mode. Do whichever you like more, that's literally all that matters. You are the one driving.

Manual

I love it even with commuting in heavy traffic daily. It is more fun and makes me a better and more engaged driver in all conditions, especially bumper to bumper traffic.

If you have never driven a manual before, the decision seems more to be manual vs automatic in general vs on the 86 specifically.

I personally hope never to own a automatic transmission vehicle - harder every year as more and more companies stop offering manual transmission in the U.S.

But so far my last 3 cars have been manual, hoping to keep it that way

The only problem I have with people who talk up the AT in an 86 is this false equivalence between this tranny and the high end automated sequential dual clutch whatchacallit manuals in Porsche, F1 cars, Ferrari, etc.

The automatic transmission in the 86 without a shadow of a doubt has more in common with daddy's Buick than the LFA. It may be the best damn slushbox AT in the world, but it's still got a torque converter, masking that by calling it "e-shift" or "flappy paddles" only serves to stroke someone's ego with falsehoods.

tl;dr buy what makes you happy.

And if you want a true flappy paddle gearbox buy a Golf.

Um, is no one going to talk about a "BRZ" titled thread being in the not-brz forum?

Here's my advice: Go read the forum rules. Read them again. Then, scan the topics on this forum to get an idea for where things belong. Then read them again.

Then, to stay on top of current events, go read all of the random thoughts forum in the off topic. Only then will you be prepared in the slightest for this forum.

By the way, I cannot resist saying that only AT will allow you to drive using your left foot for the brake (not momentarily, as in left-foot-braking while racing in an MT car, but all the time). Which is a great technique, and will the haters take the bait and start another flame war with me ?
