We're running another batch of AOS now, and will be running quite a few black pieces.

I sent my oil in a few weeks back for testing since I run our AOS drain-back kit with E85 (now E53) and have been asked multiple times if there are negatives to running it back into the engine. According to Black-Stone, everything looks good.



Oil Used: Amsoil 0w-30
Oil Cooler Used: OEM Forester
Life of Oil: This was the oil I put into the car when I put the turbo kit on, so it has been in the car for about 12 months straight and 7000 miles.
-Primarily it has ran ethanol, with a few half tanks of 91 octane.
-20-30 dyno pulls at north of 300whp.
-Half-mile racing event where it went 137MPH a dozen times.
-Typically ran at 10PSI which puts me at low 300whp.
-AOS hooked up the whole time, with auto-drain back kit installed as well.

Pretty happy with the results, I see no reason to be worried about running ethanol and the drain back valve with an AOS setup.

@VeloxEric or anyone else that would like to chime in ... I was looking at your forced induction section of you install manual, and it says to block off the intake manifold port.

Well my port is being used as a vacuum source for my wastegate and EBCS. Would you still recommend blocking that off, and using a different vacuum source for those? If so, recommendations?

By blocking off, we mean to not use it with the AOS install. If you have it going to other components for your specific application, that is fine. We just do not recommend any hoses going from the intake manifold, to the AOS.

Would it be possible to place it where the battery is and just use longer lines? This is assuming that just the AOS kit is installed; not the drain back kit or coolant kit.

I am getting a tapping/ticking noise coming from my aos. It's loud enough that I can hear it from inside the car. Is this normal? I have it hooked up just like it's shown in the installation guide for an NA set up. It appears to go away when I turn the AC off. Double checked all my connections and everything seems fine, don't think I have any leaks.

This is not normal and sounds like something may be loose and/or needs to be tightened. I would suggest looking into the connections with the chassis and trying to pinpoint where the source of the noise is coming from. The AOS does not have any moving parts inside it, but there are a few bolts in the inside as well which could have worked itself loose with the right harmonics.

I would start with the external parts first and disassemble the AOS if you cannot find any sourced of noise externally. You can do this by pulling the front cover off and should be able to reach the (4) bolts on the cap.

Ok I'll give everything a once over. It's very strange because it goes away with the AC off...

Just want to make sure the stock PCV goes in the remaining open port on the AOS correct? Because the kit comes with 2 3/8 NPT to 1/2 adapters.

Yes, that is correct. The stock PCV is re-used when run in NA configuration (hose going to the intake manifold).

I don't currently have an explanation for you, sorry. I ran that setup before I went turbo and do not remember any odd noise nor have we heard of this before your post.
