Just do yourself a favor.. If you buy a Corolla, do not, and I repeat do not, drive an FR-S or BRZ afterwards...

I find myself in a similar situation, so I'll say what motivates me to wait (and hope that the long-timers forgive my noobness).

1) I'm naturally inclined to do so.

The car is going to replace a '92 Saturn coupe. I've waited 21 years, I can probably afford a couple more months (though to be fair, the car is currently complaining loudly that this may not be true :>)

2) Possible changes to the car.

As with most, it seems highly unlikely to me that significant changes will be made for 2014. Hope dies hard though. It would be nice if the torque valley were addressed, but honestly the talk of losing ~200lbs is of much more interest to me. Weight gain and visibility loss are two characteristics of current cars that bug me the most. I'm not a "driver" by any definition popular in these parts, but the current crop of cars makes me feel more like a boat pilot than a car driver.

3) more inside / outside color choices

Nice find! Yellow on the Elise works well (for me), but I'm not sure what I think about it on the FRS. The FRS feels like it needs a deep color, which is probably why the dark blue color is attractive -- too bad my other car is already that color :| There are a lot of shades of yellow that don't qualify for deep/dark :> I was kind of hoping for the Bordeaux ( http://www.coveroid.com/view-lotus_e...1-480x360.html ) or Dark Cherry (Acura), but color choices on the exterior and interior would be welcome. [I'm also not a fan of black interiors ]

4) Time tends towards increased choices.

The success of this car will breed natural competition. As long as there's resistance to adding 400lbs of "features", it seems likely that *my* choices (light car, slung lower, don't care which wheels move the car) will increase. That might mean that by 2014 it isn't an FRS I'm looking at, though I doubt the industry moves quickly enough to make a difference in the timeframe I'm going to be looking....

YMMV, hope this helps.

You aren't a true OG unless you bought yours in 2012. Kids these days will never understand the hardships of having to take it back in for first-run problems and warranty work on everything.

And if you're torn between getting an FRS or a new Corolla, you have no business on this forum.

There's no point waiting, if you look at subarus track record there wont be many differences between 13 and 14, 02 wrx 03 wrx basically same, 04 they got bit more power and front end, 05 basically same as 04, 06 more refinements, engine ups and new front again, all on the same frame. So if you are going to wait, wait till 2019 or whatever the last model year of this frame is if you want the best one. My plan is bought a 13, then wait till the last year and get one of those when its fully supped up and maybe theres a badass STi version and make this 13 a track car.

AP1 vs. AP2 is a serious question when you shop for an S2000, the "first year" status won't come into effect for another 20+ years when nostalgia starts kicking in (at least comparing '13 to '14). Or if they ruin it by adding weight and taming it (see convertible).

Just to clarify, with the WRX, they didn't get any more power for 2004. It had the same 2.0T up until 2006 when they switched to the 2.5T. The 2005 was mechanically the same as the 2004, but it added smoked headlights/taillights and a single-tip STI-style exhaust (no claimed performance increase), nicer interior bits from the Saab 9-2X and the STI got a little bit of a rear fender extension and wider wheels.

It's just a thought, besides I want details before I make an informed decision to buy. The FR-S is the other side of the coin, and I want to know what I am getting myself into.

I think he meant a discount on the lingering '13 models that re unsold. If there is even the slightest change in equipment, there surely will be a discount for the outgoing year...there probably will be anyway as there always is.

Example: What idiot would pay the exact same price for a 2013 when the exact same 2014 model(possibly better) is sitting right next to it for the exact same price? That's basically a free years worth of mileage. It doesn't happen.

discount on brz

If you want a discount go to penfed.org click on try carbuying service without logging in. Select the car you want. It will give the name of the dealer and the discount that you will get in writing. You can print the certificate and get the listed price.
