How long do you keep the filter and oil? Even 12k seems a little scary. So I am thinking about put the OEM filter and extended performance oil on and change them after 10k miles. Question is whether the filter is good enough. The oil should be okay. (I have three new OEM filters lying around. No extended performance M1 filter.)

I do not remember the exact number, but the oil I used, Amsoil Signature Series 5w30, is rated for some astronomical mileage (20,000 or so). I changed it after my break-in period at 1,100 and will change it again close to 12,000. I will change my filter at 6,000 just for peace of mind - but I imagine that the Mobil 1 ET filter could easily make it all the way to 12,000.

In your situation, I feel like changing the oil every 10,000 and the filter every 5,000 would be good. That is what I would do in your place, for what it's worth.

But even with 12k, if I use this oil and oem filter, should i replace the filter once? Or, I should get the matching m1 extended performance filter from the get-go? Thanks for your ideas.

If you have no idea what interval is good for your engine, stick with 7500 miles.

The only way you can truly change your OCI is to run used oil analysis and adjust intervals based on your driving needs and oil consumption.

Name brand swagger.
Just so you say I have a $60+ JDM oil filter you over night from Japan.
Also so you can stand out among the peasants that have the same exact car. That use a $6-8 OEM filter.

Because a red, purple, or different color filter is cooler than a bland black subaru filter, duh :p
