All these plati dipped stock wheels are really making me want to do mine!!!!

Nice! Make me want to do mine too. Did you guys unmount the tires while you spray the plastic dip? Any sanding, polish, clear coating?

How many cans did it take for 4 rims?

Again, nice job from both of you (while and gold rims)

I unmounted it's easier. 4 cans gets a good solid coat on them. Do somewhere in good light because it is easy to miss some when in a dark garage.

Thanks!

No prep except a good cleaning. Really light first coat!

Basically what everything @fenton said. I actually used black plastidip as primer, then gold rustoleum over it. Key is good prep: unmount (much easier), good cleaning, good masking (not as crucial if you're doing just plastidip since it can just be rubbed off) and slowly building it up (very light coat first, then thicker and thicker, to get a nice matte finish and avoid getting "bumpy")

The only thing I would mention is that if you are planning on peeling them off eventually, be careful on what you put over the plastidip. I went through several test panels before I ended up with rustoleum. Clear coat over plastidip, for example, is a real paint to take off since it causes the plastidip to break up into little pieces instead.
