Shark Fin Question
So I told my girlfriend that I wanted a shark fin for my car for Christmas. I was joking. I just didn't know what else to tell her since I couldn't really think of anything I wanted.
Anyway, she ended up phoning around a couple Subaru dealerships (and other electronics places) to try to get an idea of how much they cost, etc. I was just planning on getting a BeatSonic one that I researched some years back but never got around to ordering. But the dealership said they had one but it required rewiring, etc. and it was quite expensive. Anybody know if the dealership one is worth it, or should I go with the BeatSonic? Not really sure of the benefits/drawbacks of either. Thanks so much for anybody who can provide me some information or point me to a thread that does. I did a quick search but couldn't find anything specific to my question. Thanks! |

Sounds like the dealer is making it sound more complicated than it actually is. Here's a DIY for the OEM Sharkfin antenna:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76922 Of note though is that there is no Whiteout/SWP version for the OEM Sharkfin. If you're dead set on getting the OEM Sharkfin, you will have to repaint it or find someone to repaint it for you, unless you're fine with a color-mismatched antenna. |

So, on a slightly related topic... has anyone made an antenna delete? I don't use mine and I think they look out of place

Someone posted a carbon fiber plate, but that looked even more out of place. The only way to do it correctly is a filler panel, welding, and body filler / paint. The beat sonic is what I have. It looks much better than factory and is simply one screw that has to attach. I will say this, your normal radio reception will suffer drastically. I use Pandora mostly anymore. |

Thanks for the info guys.
I don't really use the radio much but I do once in a blue moon when I have a passenger and feel like putting something on that isn't whatever's on my SD Card or whatever CD is in my car. So, a bit of a bummer on that front. Does it have a negative impact on the Navigation at all or is that completely unrelated? If it's just the Radio, it's not the biggest deal. I've got a Canadian BRZ, and it's White. Paint-matching, etc. seems probably a bit more than what I would want to do. Any pros/cons to getting the OEM one? Thanks again! |

Does not hurt your navigation. I would get the beat sonic again. Paint matched out of the box and ready to install. For the stock one there are how-to's on the board, but it is slightly more involved. Plus being a 2015+ item, it may not match your paint exactly.

The other only OEM solutions that may possibly work are the OEM antennas for VW Jettas and for the previous gen Corolla. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...TApKH/$_35.JPG What the Corolla antenna looks like, it doesn't have the light though is is usually painted or just matte black plastic. But it's much smaller than the original antenna we have and possibly not visible from far away. I was thinking of testing it soon, the only problems I see are a bit of soldering, no problem, if it's actually compatible, which it should be, it's just FM radio and to see if it's actually big enough to cover over the hole where the wiring comes out of. Don't want leaks. |

Litterally just took off the antenna and cut up a rockstar can and place the aluminum from the can in there and then wrapped the roof.
